We are off to Whitstable and Canterbury tomorrow for the Kent beer festival. I shall also be sampling some Whitstable oysters and crab,,,yum!
The Whitstable oyster festival starts on Saturday.Funny.The last time I looked, there wasn't an 'r' in July. ![](smileys/smiley2.gif) |
I spent many a happy summer in my youth in Canterbury, Tankerton and Whitstable. Too young for the beer though! Have a good weekend all.

Well I was in SPAIN with the Script boys for the weekend..........
Er Spain.........it was HOT, The beloved spent the entire weekend (from Fri night until returning home) with VILOENT food poisoning, the spectaclar electrical storm in the area turned into a rain storm of biblical proportions and whilst the poorly one slept/threw up in the dressing room we all did what we could to rescue things, as the bull ring was about 4 inches deep in water after the 30 mins of rain! (us girlies got soaked to the skin, but got a big cheer when we stripped off our wet t-shirts to swap 'em for dry shirts from the crew!) and eventually there was a show (without PA!!! they ran of their amps plugged into massive extension leads and a small vocal amp...no lights, no moitors etc etc etc!!!) Script boys got on stage about 2am, and Threshold went on, finishing about 5.30am, the beloved one went straight from stage (very wobbly and pale) back to hotel, the rest of us stayed until the bitter end to show support, and sat drinking whiskey with Threshold until about 9am when we all went to bed!
We got back about 4 am this morning!!!!............ and been working solid since about 10am..........
Mick Pointer was a LEGEND and it was down to his determination that we got a show at all, plus all the wonderful spanish crew who worked their nuts off with hairdryers trying to dry out the equipment!
It was eventful, and certainly one to remember!!!!
Whats everyone elses excuse?!?!!? HOw was Man Erg's weekend in Kent???

I'm on a prog marathon this weekend - Saturday off to the Latitude Festival in Stowmarket to see Sigor Ros and The Mars Volta then a quick burn up the A14 to Godmanchester for Marillion, Mostly Autumn and The Reasoning on Sunday at the Cambridge Rock (and Beer) fest. |
Did you happen to see The Now Show and Poetry Please? If I'd known about this, this could have made a nice weekend away. Suffolk is a bit of a drive though. ![Ouch](smileys/smiley18.gif) Maybe next year! I "may" go to Bloodstock but it's coming up soon and I'm still deciding... plus I may ask a girl I know if she wants to go. ![Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif)

Jim will go all unnecessary, now be careful, Rach. ![Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) Glad to hear you had a good time. I went on a stag weekend in Barcelona about 3 or 4 years back and it was blisteringly hot, even at 5 a.m. I didn't need to wear a jacket at all. But yes, there was a big storm there too and well... I was a tad too inebriated and couldn't find my way back to the Hostel and got soaked in the rain without a clue as to what I was doing or where I was. Luckily for me, I'd only wandered round the corner but I could have easily gone missing! One set of friends were in bed and the others had gone to McDonalds, so I was all by myself. ![LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) ![Embarrassed](smileys/smiley9.gif) They did leave me outside the Hostel doors though, so it wasn't their faults.

The Now Show was on Friday, so I missed that, I also missed Just A Minute and Marcus Brigstocke's Early Edition which were on Saturday. Spent far too long in the comedy 'arena' (tent) and couldn't get anywhere near the literary or poetry tents - they were packed - apart from the rain it was a great festival, but Cambridge was better... Jim Leverton & Geoffrey Richardson did a great acoustic set of Caravan & Penquin Cafe Orchestra tunes and Marillion were very entertaining.

Warmington-on-Sea...sorry,Whitstable was excellent.
I don't think anything has changed down there since the 1930s.I half expected to see Capt. Mainwaring,Sgt.Wilson and Pike walk around the corner at any momemt.
We ate loads of oysters and crab. Drank loads of beer. The local ale,Gadds is very good indeed.

Morning all, mananged to open the grey room at last; think one of the Garten's cats must have been lying against the back of the door. Sounds like several of you have had exciting weekends. I was meant to be driving a steam engine last weekend but it broke so I spent all of Sunday hanging around and watching the Grand Prix.
Weather forecast says that it's sunny today in Gloucestershire but on looking outside I disagree,

Well, I'm off to Germany at 04:00 tomorrow for a week's Scout camp. Hmm, a week's camping with 23 Scouts, should be interesting. A bit gutted that it's sunny here but the forecast for Koblenz is rain for the next 4 days.
See you in a week, can someone feed my cats while I'm gone please.

Good luck,Alan
What should we feed your cats....to?
Could you send a couple of clouds to Surrey? My garden could do with a bit of a drench.

^^I would just like to inform the GR regulars that I have three passion flowers so far, with a whole lot more about to spring to life on the aforementioned trellis...

Spain? Rain? camping in Germany? - i heard many were staying in Blighty soakin up the rays - too hot to work in!
Apparently i saw many Brits have opted for a bucket-and-spade holiday this year, i gave up going abroad years ago as i would have liked to spend some of it enjoying the country, not a weekend in Luton airport or scouring the streets of an unfamiliar city looking for a chemist...or a bank, or rushing through 3 or 4 countries on a coach ( i don't fly..planes pollute the atmosphere and spread disease).
England still has a lot to offer the tourist keen to see interesting things, but all those pretty fishing villages, cute castles and country cottages do tend to all look the same after a while...being single posed no problems with accomodation, but breakfast is an ordeal to be avoided! If you have a wife and/or 2 kids you are a respectable and normal member of society - but if you are on your own people think you're strange and suspicious - men don't like single men talking to their wife, or especially their kids...waiters advertise the fact you are alone in restaurants by removing a whole place setting, and if you like sitting by the beach watching children play you could find yourself in big trouble (especially if you have a camera) - you obviously must be up to no good! ... it drives one to drink... ![Wink](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)
if you have a dog with you, of course, everything is ok and you're a perfectly respectable member of society (as long as it doesn't poo..).
i need some inspiration! ![Ermm](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif)

Did anyone see Nigel Kennedy at The Proms on BBC2 last night?
After performing a superb Elgar Violin Concerto he brought on his jazz band.Wow!
The second tune that he did, 'The Hills of Saturn' featured none other than Jeff Beck.It was very proggy.
The last 'tune' that Kennedy and group performed was Hendrix's 'Third Stone From the Sun'. Not as successful as the previous tune but very good nonetheless.

Nope... I missed this. I was watching some of the 1st Night of the Proms the other day, however. I didn't have the television on last night... oh well.
By the way, Lee, did you happen to see the Mediaeval Music series hosted by Charles Hayward? I'm really thinking of buying some The Burning Bush albums (wonderful Klezmer music), as well as that other group I forget the name of, who were dressed in robes.
