Yeah, Joy Division are awesome. If you haven't heard it, check out New Order's very first album called Movement. It often gets bad reviews but in my opinion it's amazing. It's very similar to Joy Division, quite different from New Order's later, more famous songs.

Archaia - Archaia. Diving deeper into zeuhl! I did not like this one all that much, although I was able to notice its virtues. I think the lack of drums and use of bells and smaller percussion instruments is a bold experiment, especially in zeuhl, where rhythm is a crucial aspect, but I did not particularly like it. In my book, it comes closer to Rock In Opposition rather than zeuhl. Nonetheless, it's a very decent album!
Dzyan - Time Machine. This is the first Dzyan album I've ever listened to and it was a pretty interesting experience. I am not always a fan of Indian influences in krautrock, but I think Dzyan have really succeeded with this one. I especially liked the intricate theme of "Magika." Man, it's pretty good now that I'm thinking. Klaus Schulze - Mirage. Had to listen to this one once more. Really, such a refreshing journey. And imagine what imaginary landscapes your mind could create with this music if the cover was actually nice. I mean, it's not hideous, but I don't think it goes in par with the excellence of the music. Eskaton - 4 Visions. Another one I had to come back to. This is my #1 zeuhl album so far. It just does something to me. You know what I mean? there are just some albums that make you want to be a part of the sound wave coming out of your speakers. And here the cover reflects the mood of the music perfectly! Love it! Popol Vuh - Affenstunde. I might be in a minority, but I prefer Popol Vuh's electronic era to their acoustic, ethnic stuff. I just don't get why it gets such low ratings! I think it's fantastic. This is how I like my ambient... And those soft sounds of the Minimoog! The title track ist wunderbar! Quite a journey! This was my day! |

For me, the Acoustic and Electronic ages are both excellent, Affenstunde and In Der Garten Pharaos are simply masterpieces, but Hosianna Mantra and Aguirre are in the same boat, really excellent stuff

Is that the latest Electric Orange album, Sam? I was considering buying it, pretty sure it's only on vinyl at this point? How did you go with thet Mo-Du disc? I'm definitely going to jump on one of the CD's of that one. |

Cheers, Sam, I've made a note to keep an eye on that Electric Orange one. How does it sound compared to the previous album `Volume 10'?
Yep, that Mo-Du one is really quite Berlin School, if in shorter bursts. I feel it's well worth buying! Today's choices, an accidently all-modern day: Ben Craven – Last Chance to Hear Comedy of Errors - Spirit Porcupine Tree – The Sky Moves Sideways (original version) Riverside – Love, Fear and the Time Machine Le Orme – Felona e Sorona 2016 FEM Prog Band – Sulla Bolla di Sapone The Angling Loser – Arena of Apprehension Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - July 29 2016 at 06:50 |
