I usually am too. I'm sure my current disillusionment is just a phase and will pass. |

I liked the spirit of the article. The American Thinker usually makes sense in many ways though their foreign policy views are too imperialist and neo-con-ish sometimes.

This is one of the most economically ignorant articles I've ever read.

"There are limits to Obama’s gift of empathy. He appears untroubled by the fact that because of his criminal actions, Abdulrahman al-Awlaki’s mother has been deprived of both her son and her husband. He is living proof of the fact that the deadliest sociopaths aren’t the ones who dye their hair red and identify with comic book nihilists." |

^I like many of that website's articles. There was a good one last night asking the question "why did nobody try to fight back or tackle the murderer" in the movie massacre. Sadly, a link I followed to the writer's website lead to another article where he came up with some crazy conspiracy theory about the FBI financing the murderer.... But the first one I read was pretty good.

Yes, that is correct. People need those extra carbohydrates to combat rising crime. What diet do you think Batman is on, vegan? Bloomberg will kill the vigilane business

Wow I never knew that Idiot of all Idiots Bloomberg had gone so far in his desire to make government and its forces the absolute masters of our destiny. He even suggested a strike against civilians!
"I don’t understand why the police officers across this country don’t stand up collectively and say, ‘We’re going to go on strike. We’re not going to protect you. Unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what’s required to keep us safe." |

Both notions that the police need us to keep them safe and that the police keep us safe make me laugh a little bit inside. Good. Let them strike.

I honestly think Bloomberg is among the most idiotic people in the public world. Including all famous people. And that is saying something.

This comes out of nowhere, but I'm reading a paper for my last class ever, a paper about emerging adulthood (a theory used to describe the not-yet-adults of today's world) and I read this paragraph about some European societies regarding freedom, not the same freedom Americans (especially libertarians and alike) tend to defend:
"Indeed, ‘‘freedom’’ is a concept spoken about by the young in many of these countries, but its meaning varies. Norwegian youth, for example, seem to associate freedom largely with independence from the parental home (Ravn, 2005, p. 41). In contrast, young people in Spain associate freedom with a lack of economic and social responsibility. In interviews in city after city, many told me that they were staying single in order to be ‘‘free,’’ by which they meant free to go out, to socialize, and to travel. They also said that they stay in the parental home until they are 30 or 35 years old because this arrangement makes it easier for them to experience this freedom than would their being on their own (especially in a country with the highest youth unemployment in the European Union). Among the advantages they cite for staying in the family home are food, laundry, ironing, and access to computers and cars. Their view is, Why would I leave home? As one young person expressed it, ‘‘We want freedom, but it’s a comfortable freedom’’ (Douglass, 2005b)" Isn't it sad if the US is moving in the same direction? In the end, the old social-democratic dogma of "freedom from want" has replaced actual freedom in one part of the world, at least in a big percentage of the population. This really casts a bad light for the future of actual liberty.

This is one of the biggest obstacles in discussing political philosophy with Europeans (and increasingly, with young Americans.) Since they have a totally different concept of freedom, it's hard to find a common ground on which to build a discussion.

Don't we all want freedom from economic responsibility? I'm not siding with the general attitude, but just examining that statement I cannot disagree with it.
