Panna Fredda is good stuff, I like their only album, but their work was "polluted" by a sort of "copy and paste" from another song: listen "Un re senza reame" and "Heaven" by Gracious! and you'll understand what I'm saying :) Anyway, I have to listen Terra In Bocca :)

I wasn't aware of the Panna Fredda 'copy-paste' stuation, I personally thought it was an excellent album. but now I'm curious about Graciuos. Also, I whole heartedly agree about Il Paese Dei Balocchi being overlooked, but unfortunately that's what usually happens with 'one album wonders'. |

Dear RPI fans,
One of my favorite music writers Raffa (Progmistress) Berry has written a great piece on summer music festivals in Italy. Since the RPI Team has had people asking questions about this very topic I wanted to link you all to this. Check out the rest of her fine blog while you are there. http://progmistress.wordpress.com/2011/06/30/live-news-an-italian-summer-of-prog/ |

So this may be a bit off-topic, but I just noticed that this thread could be abbreviated to "The IPA den" which could give people the wrong idea about what's inside.

I was totally oblivious to that - and I actually own that Gracious! album Ahem... Anyways, check the Terra in Bocca out, it is pretty good symphonic stuff, but you might have to wait a century to get your hands on it... I got it at a yard sale an old Italian guy held a while back, together with almost 20 other titles. He´d grown tired of prog altogether (!!!!???? - how does one do that???) - and I was there for the taking

I have never ever seen a better reason to visit Italy. Unfortunate, I am commited to urgent real life (=middle age man) issues for the rest of this year. But Ryan Air does very cheap flights to Italy from the rest of Europe so....... But, I can't. As always; a great article by Raff. A piece that deserve a lot better distribution. No but thanks for reminding me, I have to put that one on "the list." How many Italian titles do you have now? Have you ever forgone groceries so you could purchase RPI? That's the first sign of trouble. Then you start skipping the rent now and again during the Japan mini splurges
Went with Alusa Fallax today.

^I have around 70, but a lot of these are second hand. Doesn´t matter though as they all work, although one of them (Procession Fiaba) has a small scratch that makes a tiny krrh during the last number.
And yeah - I have bought RPI instead of food more than once Then when my account is reduced to an alarming echo, I throw in the towel and visit my folks in Jutland - to get fed and well enjoy some of the most beautiful nature in Denmark, which could be something out of Lord of the Rings - without the mountains though. Love walking in the woods with some RPI as forground music, if you know what I mean. Music takes on another dimension, when you´re constantly confronted with new surroundings. AND - you should definitely get that Bambibanda album. It´s not the most progressive out there, but the melodic approach here combined with a slight nod to jazz - makes for a very delicious eargasm and it just takes you away. The only thing I can falter is the singer, but that is really if I was to nitpick.

Hey Finn , this thread is really dangerous to me , cause you have a hell of Avatar , i wish this woman was mine , and i know deep in my heart she's not yours !! but what i really want to say about Italian Symphonic Progressive rock is only one word > i'm following all bands & artists in Italy since 1970 , i've seen concerts , activities , albums in vinyl & cd's , these bands are really talented , and they're far ahead of any other bands from different countries , but the main issue was & still , Progressive can only be made in International languages , Germans knows that , Japanese & Chinese knew it , and we in the middle east , knew that progressive cannot be made in Arabic ! so as far as i'm concerned , PFM , New Trolls , and some few other bands did a good effort in this issue , but they're all great talented bands !

ahhh.....but she *is* mine.....
Not sure I follow you on the language thing. I think bands can be great progressive bands with their native tongue for sure, there is no reason to use English outside of commercial reasons, IMO. I love French and Italian language prog for the feel of the language. German is not the most soothing, but I'd still rather hear a German band use German unless the vocalist is very fluent in English. |

That's sad to hear that you feel progressive cannot be popular in the Arabic language - do you know many/any Arabic-singing progressive bands? I'd be interested to hear them. |

Hi guys! I just wanted to say that if any of those visiting this thread hasn't heard Il Castelo di Atlante, they should do it asap. The classic RPI sound this band has is fantastic. Frankly, I was shocked to see that Capitolo 7 was a 2009 album! Apparently their other releases are excellent as well. This looks like a 'must have moarrrrr' situation. I like it! :D
Oh and about Amanita (mistagged as prog folk as far as I'm concerned) - this was a tricky one, because as much as I love flute, I really really dislike sax. So that got in the way. However I will have to hear it again, because I have constantly been interrupted while listening to it. Hoping for a more pleasant listening experience next time. |
