Ariel Pink : 1 (talked to him before a show, hooray)
| Nice. I purchased Pom Pom a couple days ago, and had various songs from it stuck in my head last night.
| Yay! I still love that album. It's one of those albums that sounds a lot weirder when you play it in front of someone else who's used to normal music, which is unnerving because to my own ears it sounds like a pop classic.
Maybe you hadn't heard the story of my short conversation with Ariel Pink. It was kind of awkward. I was buying stuff from him at the merch table and had thought of a good ice-breaker to start a conversation. I found out about his music when I got Rare Goat to record an R. Stevie Moore song (Misplacement) for inclusion on a download-only R. Stevie Moore Tribute album. About 7 CDs worth of submissions comprised the set, and Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti was one of the bands on there. I'd also seen advertisements for his stuff on R. Stevie's web site, which I frequent. So eventually I checked Ariel out and fell in love with it immediately.
But anyway, I thought I would break the ice by saying "hey, you know that R. Stevie tribute album you're on? I'm on that too!" But it turned out that a) he has contributed to multiple R. Stevie tribute albums, b) and he didn't even recall being included on this one. Damn, there goes my ice breaker. "Was I on that?" he asked.
| At least it's better than, "so Grimes, amirite?"
| ha! Pom Pom is one of my favorite albums of all time. Almost as perfect as Before Today.
|
I like Pom Pom even better right now, although I can think of few choruses as anthemic as "Round and Round."

Same air temp, but we have wind chills in the -15 to -20 regime. Now you'd think in an office building they could make it comfortable, but no.

ew, it's been like that here and we got nearly a foot of snow in the past couple days. I'm really tired of winter now.
