I ignore all 'Death Metal' type Prog. A good example would be Opeth, a band that is quite popular and fairly raved about. I can't listen to that stuff though, it doesn't feel right to me, makes me feel gross. It's like watching a movie i don't think is appropriate. I just want to turn it off.

1 Chronicles 13:7-9
Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets. |

Nothing reaaly, albums, artist are just rather delayed. Althoug there artists who don't sound very encouraging, so it's not my priority to get into them more any time soon. Like some German bands from a mainly German subgenre. |

hmm, well. WDGG, Tool, Opeth, PoA earlier, Uzwa. There are several, some of which might not appeal by the name, others the image, and you can't really listen to everything.

I've completely ignored Yes. I've heard a few snippets of songs from the FYE at the Rock Hall and since it didn't immediately impress me I bought some Judas Priest instead. *ducks*

Ignoring isn't really an issue, unless its a band that I have heard (Porcupine Tree) and didn't like and just wasn't interested in exploring further; or, a band that I previously enjoyed (Dream Theater) and just got burned out on or repeatedly disappointed by. The real issue is time. Time to buy, listen and absorb. For me, listening to 2000 albums enough to write an effective review like Sean Trane is not realistic.
I suppose the band that most fits the bill of the question is Vandergraf Generator. But again, not really ignored, just not gotten around to.
Those of you ignoring prog metal: it is important to note that there are many who have the label, but have little to do with the metal side of it. Its not all Tool, Dream Theater and Opeth. Check out the first Gordian Knot. Edited by Tapfret - October 10 2007 at 00:52 |

Add VDGG and GG to that list, although some GG is pretty awesome - I just haven't got hooked on them yet. Edited by Novalis - October 10 2007 at 03:36 |

For Neo-Prog, I recommend IQ. Avoid the albums with albums with Memel. Good singer, OK songs, but more commercial 80s sound. Start with Tales from the Lush Attic, Subterranea, or Dark Matter. If you like 'em, you like the other CDs with Nicholls as the singer. |

Transatlantic, Flower kings, Spock's beard and the else. When I'm in the mood for modern stuff, I do mean modern, not acolytes off the old school.

¿WDGG = WOLKSWAGEN DER GRAAF GENERATOR? Anyway, if you must ignore some bands, try to choose the less interesting ones, but do try VDGG... now, if there really is a WDGG, then yeah, ignore it. |
