I'm still perfectly fine with exploring South American prog from the 1970s. Mind-blowing stuff, I'd say. Crucis, La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros, Wara... great stuff.

Good to see so many people posting here... I agree with all the comments, excelent music all way around South America.

I will add few bands with recent works, among others not yet mentioned:

- Leusemia, from Peru. I received the excelent cd Hospicios as a gift from my good friend Cesar Inca in a visit to Lima and it really surprised me. Is a masterpiece.

- Tavo Castillo, excelent senior flautist, keyboardist and guitarist (formerly with peruvian band Frágil) released an interesting solo cd called Ensueños, good for relaxing mood times.

- Eclipse, Brazilian prog band that had the track "Give It Back" included in the Gentle Giant tribute album Giant Tracks. Their cd Jumping From Springboards was considered the best Brazilian prog cd in 2003 by local prog site "Rock Progressivo Brasil".

I also reinforce the impressions about Exsimio, from Chile, excelent band that I had the chance to see live in Brazil (2006) in a tour with the also good band Flor de Loto from Peru...

And for those who appreciate heavier sounds, the Heavy Metal scene is also very strong presently in South America, specially in Brazil and deserves a closer look...

Anyway, starving or not, Chilean Band CONGRESO and Peruvian band FRÁGIL are really good suggestions.

I must agree that my neighbors are excellig at prog at the moment. But there is also a true tresure awayting in the discovery of the bands of the past.
