and I added it to the poll. If Dr Wu does not do it, I'm gonna add one of his songs. Hope he won't mind.

Throughout the week, I've managed to listen to all of the postings and found that everyone posted a personal favorite that I really liked, but most of them ended up not being picked, strangely enough. So, here are my top three:
1. Jarboli - "Nista" 2. Enter the Haggis - "Gasoline" 3. Loud Sugar - "Instant Karma Coffee House" Runners up were Paola Turci (it was very good, but not what I consider catchy), Salada de Frutas (it was vying for #3, but was barely pushed out of the top 3). The ones that I like a lot but were not picked for voting were Calogero, Band-Maid, Tonio K. and Two Door Cinema Club. Any of those could have been in my top 3. (I guess we can only vote once)

It was a nice selection, again. Thanks to everyone! Of the nominations I very much liked the songs of Paola Turci, Eye to Eye and Jarboli, but the most catchy in my ears that I liked too are those by Imperial Teen (the most catchy one - and not only You're One...), Glen Adams Affair (catchy AND groovy!) and Enter the Haggis (folky AND catchy)! Edit: Ow, I notice we only have one vote...?!

The opposite here. Now listening to the final playlist (thanks mathman, super helpful as always!) it strikes me as pretty good overall with lots of things that can "catch" me; when listening earlier to something like a random third of what had been nominated before, I was rather underwhelmed.

^^ Yes, and ^^^ yes. Multiple votes has not been enabled for this poll yet. Perhaps Cristi is still waiting to finalise that and voting has not yet formally commenced. His last message is "we got 15 songs so far".
I had a listen to all of the nominated songs, but haven't made up my mind yet. This is one where I haven't been keen on most of the music, but maybe things will grow on me with a second spin. My choice seems a bit odd with the others, but I do like some contrast. I had planned to mention a couple others depending on what people said about my "Sour Times" choice. I am more of a down-tempo (or downer) kind of guy. I almost went with this since it's more traditionally catchy: But since I included that in a recent poll of mine, I opted not to. |

But since I included that in a recent poll of mine, I opted not to.[/QUOTE] I do find "Sour Times," the most catchy of all, truly. Especially because, the first time I heard it, some years ago, I made sure to seek out who that was. But you know my personal rule, I am looking for catchiest I'm not familiar with. I, too, love those minor key, sad and dark pieces of music.

Sorry about that double post, something was going wacky here, then I lost internet. It's back now...for a bit, the site was saying I didn't have the proper clearance to post anything.

Well that's good to hear. "Sour Times" is catchy to me, but I thought that others might question that. Catchiness can be in the ear of the behearer. I don't think I would have changed my nomination had anyone objected, unless it was because it was considered too well-known. I didn't really get to know it until quite recently -- when I discovered the 90s "Blue Jam" radio black comedy and music series. Longtime admirer of Chris Moris, but it took a comedy podcast I listen to (The Rule of Three) to get me to listen to Blue Jam, which got me to listen to "Sour Times". I love that kind of associative discovery process. PS, I removed the extra post -- it happens sometimes. Edited by Logan - August 12 2020 at 12:22 |

I'm already very familiar with Portishead, and yes, much of it is catchy and I'm a big fan already with their three main albums in my collection. Too familiar, that's why I had to pass on it.

That Portishead song I know very well, too well actually. I like it, but given that I heard this X times and there is some stuff that is just as good, votes are for the new discoveries. At the moment I can only say that the winner is that Jarboli thing, surely the most intense, and combining that with catchiness is no small feat. (Not sure whether I have anything from Serbia in my collection.) Other candidates, but I still have to pick my 2 and 3: Yello, De Staat, Imperial Teen, the Mermaid Man (I wouldn't call that catchy, but it's big fun). I'm not going to vote for Slave Raider, not my kind of style really, but I actually like this one, and "Get together and make some noise" is surely my favourite song message. Hard to capture better what life is about.

That Salada de Frutas one is actually very catchy and has its original elements, but the supersmooth disco sound kind of kills it. |

My top 3:
1. George: Imperial
Teen “You’re One” Nice classic
intro! I liked the Alt Rock era a
lot. Love this kind of poppy yet not actually quite-as-sweet as the era it sort of emulates band. Still wondering why they weren't a bigger hit in that era. 2. Dr
wu23: Enter the Haggis “Casualties of Retail” I have heard of them (love the name!) but had
never heard them before. Not a fan of
haggis itself, but this one is probably going to keep coming back to my
mind. Always up for a new Celtic twist. 3. Lewian: Foals “Exits” I like the bell-like almost oriental keys
repeating and the backwards (?) keys or guitars, not sure what it is, but nice
effect and catchy. Honorable Mention: I don't even like disco, but this was an earworm, nonetheless. Jaketejas: Glen
Adams Affair “Just a Groove” You
definitely got the general idea. First disco entry of the bunch and pretty
catchy, too. |

Lots of different things there that I am not familiar with......hard to pick only 3...but went with
Portishead-Sour Times.....a band I have always wanted to explore but never did...seductive music. Imperial teen- You're One.....always liked what I call 'power pop'...and they fit that niche for me even though they aren't quite as hard edged as some others. Instant Karma Coffee House- Loud Sugar.....different but cool music....not sure what to call it but it was fun and clever....liked the vocals and lyrics.

The nomination playlist is such a cool mixtape It was a hard choice but I liked De Staat, Eye to Eye and Glen Adams Affair slightly more.
