I've never really been that fond of Randy Newman.  The songs are kinda groovy when I'm in the mood, but on the whole he doesn't do much for me.  That song hit me about the same way - not bad, but not really my thing either.

yeah he is sort of that cozy singer songwriter, that you can sip cofey to and hum to, but not overwhelming,

i love his Toy Story contribution though
