Yes, enough morbidity for right now.

I did hear that Pekka! MWH was telling me about it, supposedly with an official news thing tomorrow (erm...today)
All we know is it's supposedly a street circuit, with a view of NYC in the background.
There are not many cities I can think of that fit this description and could hold a race, some are pretty big sh*t holes so I hope it's the only one that's not: Hoboken.

Let's see if we're right!

Also needless to say I will be going. I would seriously have made a road trip to see the GP in Texas but under 30 minutes away may be a tad better LOL

I posted this two pages back about it

Doesn't really say much other than saying what we have all just said. Spa and Monaco combo would be cool...honestly can't see that in Hoboken! Tongue (Which is still a sh*thole really)

Press conference at 2 PM (Eastern) so not much more waiting.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

I hope it happens, sounds like it would be a good race and the suggestion is that it could have a decent amount of elevation change, so hopefully not another Valencia.

This is all well and good but I doubt I'll be able to see any races live next season (or indeed for 2013 most likely)... well, except the few the BBC have the rights to show.

But yey, another circuit!

Hoboken
Jersey City, Newark.....take your pick of those 3 MWH :P

I am pretty surprised, I hear rumors of all kinds of NEW GP who knows which are true but we're looking to have like a 24 race schedule soon.

^Loads of places sign contracts with Bernie but only a few of them actually get anywhere. This weekend will be the third such major attempt in the last 10 years for India to get on the calander, but the first to actually result in a track. I know the proposed Russian GP is the 3rd or 4th in the last 15 years, and China actually had a spot on the 99 calander that never happened (and thank god for that, the Zuhai circuit it was going to race on is really crap, all mid length straights and hairpins).

Basically, until they start building the track its only a proposal.

Well, its official. New Jersey to host a F1 race in 2013. And it ain't in any of those choices JJ. Tongue

Not much new there, but the track looks pretty interesting and there were many MANY  comparisons to Monaco during the press conference. Probably alittle to far, but I'm glad it's happening. I'll certainly attend,

Please don't let this be another Detroit, Dallas, a car park in Las Vegas or Phoenix. Venues that killed F1 in USA. And please, not another Valencia too. I have high hopes for the India track though this weekend. It seems like a good track.

Exactly Sleeper, I've been hearing about this Russian GP for how many years now? I'm not taking it as a guarantee (especially since I can't imagine 2 US races) but hey, I'll be hopeful!

A Formula One Grand Prix in my state is about the most far fetched thing I'd imagine so words will escape me if it happens.
Also, I'm imaging the $$$ this would bring into my knocking on the door of bankruptcy, starved state! Though I wonder how much of it people like MWH and I will see...hell, will any of it actually get to people? I can't see how, at least no decent amountErmm

Well it certainly looks better than Detroit or Vegas (don't know the other ones).

As for it being successful. only time will time. I suspect the first one will be average and once people see it, hopefully it will grow. (Assuming it's as good as they are blowing it up to be)

If they turn this into an event like Indycar has done with their street races now. That's when something happens all the time and the audience can mingle and really party. Hence the success of the Baltimore race where the racing was one of the entertainments there and not alpha and omega. You have to keep the paying customers happy all the time by letting them enjoying themselves.

.......... This is what the stuffy F1 series is not that good at. F1 is much more purist car and techno focused than entertainment focused. Not to mention marketing focused where the focus is to drive up the sales of Mercedes cars the day after. I think we are in for a cultural conflict here.   Smile

How much in the way of elevation change is there in that area? It'll be so nice to see a race track that hasnt had all the little bumps in the ground bulldozed before hand!

And at least Leo Hindery's in charge, he's a proper racer and related to the great American race promoter "Humpy" Wheeler, he even has a tatoo of the Le Mans circuit on his shoulder (yes really!) after he finished 2nd in the GT class there about 5 years ago on his first visit.

You mean a cultural conflict here between us Torodd? Nah, remember that time on FB when I tried to tell you about my feelings on universal healthcare....and you kinda ignored me and kept repeating "no sorry it's just too big a cultural divide" and how Americans are just too different in thinking. We totally agreed on the issue but you wouldn't let me explain Cry  Unless you mean a cultural conflict between just F1 and other series in general, in which case my apologies Embarrassed

If this thing ends up making a ton of money I just want NJ to see part of it since we need it desperately ya know? Some of this 99% vs 1 thing ya know LOL

I'm not familiar with it so I have no idea. What has more curious is, it's not really an urban area. These always go through cities....I thought it was kind of suburban. Seems like a weird place to hold a race and that they'd be ok with it.

The Manhatten skyline in the background is the main reason behind the track, I have been told. They want F1 cars with that image in the background. Since they could not hold the race in Manhatten, they went for plan B which is this track.

New York, New York..... Anyone knows that Sinatra song ?

Elevation of the NJ/NY race. I will go to this, barring any financial difficulties.

Also, this is the commentary room for the India GP

And needless to say I will be there.

That looks like a really good track, more in line with the classics than the modern Tilke-dromes. A Montreal with elevation change?

Bad starts for Hamilton and Perez this weekend, they've both got 3 place grid penalties for ignoring double waved yellow flags in FP1.
