Driving to Amsterdam = Heart

Driving to Amsterdam = OK

Rest of the album is much the same. The opener is trés cool, though.

Wolf City blaring at the moment - really fabulous album.

Ouch

Oh well.  You clearly don't hear what I hear. LOL

On the plus side, Grave New World is gold. And I really like The Aerosol Grey Machine, even if the version of Giant Squid/Octopus is a bit flaccid relative to the later H to He take.

Fail.

Not because you're wrong with your assessment of VdGG Giant Squid/Octopus and Squid 1/Squid 2/Octopus.  You're in fact factually incorrect.

Squid 1/Squid 2/Octopus was originally recorded along with some other tracks (that have since disappeared) for a double album Pawn Hearts.  Not for H to He.  They scrapped the idea of a Double Album Pawn Hearts and obviously released it as it was on vinyl.

Even Wikipedia mentions it:

"Squid 1" / "Squid 2" / "Octopus" – 15:24 (bonus track on 2005 reissue) Wink

It's alright. James doesn't know how to fight anyway.

I've not heard it yet either.

But Pat and Mike have.

You didn't?! Shocked

I haven't heard Merci.  Mike said it's not as bad as he was thinking it would be but it's still average.  I don't think Pat enjoys it at all.  Alex has already said he hates it.

I'm with Mike. It is average. It has the 80s flu. But it wasn't dreadful to listen to.

Except if you're a Magma purist and you're shocked to see Vander in a disco club instead of in his slumber chamber of ascension practice. Wink

Oh, the Retrospectiws (all three) were quite good. There's something about the MDK performance that didn't shined, Theusz Hamtaak is great, and the material from III (especially the first piece) is very refreshing.

Not heard III yet.

Yes, the break in M.D.K. is a bit off putting and I don't always think Lockwood's violin fits.

However, I love the intro to M.D.K. better on this version and I also love the end.  It's just the pause and the violin.

But then it was a live recording.

Theusz Hamtaahk is best on this version.  I do enjoy the Trilogie Thuesz Hamtaahk version too, mind you.

The intro of MDK on RII is not better than the intro of MDK on MDK, me believes. It's faster and skips a lot of bars and phases, while the original is almost like a ritual, starting with the rhythms, the incantation and then all that wonderful developement.

I wasn't shocked that it stopped and went on to heavy improvs, on Retrospectiw. But it was as good as playing live can be. The original stays where it is.

I was mostly referring to the poem in French that Vander speaks.  That's not on the album version or the Trilogie Theusz Hamtaahk version.  That's the bit I like.  It sets the scene.  I get weird mental images in my head and I start pumping my fist in the air after the he says Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh.  It draws me in more than the studio version.  Plus his screams are more outrageous too. Big smile

The ending on Theusz Hamtaahk is marvellous.  They also don't have that on other versions.  It's so depressing. Ouch

But it's French!

We need za Kobaian! Wink

Speaking of which, I've taunted a friend of mine, mixing some Kobaian in the conversation we had on the messenger, and he asked me what kind of language is that. I told him it's Albanian. LOL

Good, good!

I had trouble deciding on this week's theme, but then I realized I couldn't appease everyone and that I'd eventually get to every single main sub-genre in some way or another so it doesn't matter.

Yes but you have to realise that Kobaian is only the language on Kobaia.  French was the language used on Earth by the humans who settled on Kobaia.

So it sets the scene.
