Opening band was Max Webster who started their set with "Oh War"
Man that was a heck uv a long time ago!
That would have been so cool.  First time that I saw them was in 1989 as part of the Presto tour.  I've seen them just about every tour since then though.
I remember my sister and her friend(who would have been only about 12 at the time) arrived early, and snooped around and found a way of getting inside the civic center, and found Rush inside rehearsing! They hung out just them and the band, and Neil Peart noticed them and said "Let's do one for the girls" and they played Closer To The Heart.

That reminds me of a story of Blue Cheer's bass player Dickie Peterson, who when finally touring Japan in the late 1990s met a monk who said to him "We have awaited your arrival for 30 years"

I would say that I am pretty lucky that most major bands make a tour stop in the Detroit area.  Many lesser known bands will stop here too, although many of them will only play Chicago and consider that to be close enough.  I am looking at you Marillion and Neal Morse. Stern Smile

I'd certainly make that investment as well.

Bill: Ted, while I agree that, in time, our band will be most triumphant. The truth is, Wyld Stallyns will never be a super band until we have Neil Peart on drums.
Ted: Yes, Bill. But, I do not believe we will get Neil Peart until we have a triumphant video.
Bill: Ted, it's pointless to have a triumphant video before we even have decent instruments.
Ted: Well, how can we have decent instruments when we don't really even know how to play?
Bill: That is why we NEED Neil Peart!
Ted: And THAT is why we need a triumphant video.
Bill, Ted: EXCELLENT!
[air guitar, the clock chimes 8:00 am]
Bill: Uh oh, we're late!
Ted: For what?
Bill: For school, dude!
Ted: Oh yeah.

Also:

Evil Duke: Put them in the iron maiden.
Ted: Iron Maiden?
Bill, Ted: Excellent!
[air guitar]
Evil Duke: Execute them.
Bill, Ted: Bogus!

I just learned how to do a screenshot on my computer so I tried it out by taking a snapshot of a youtube video of me playing guitar and making it my avatar for a while.

Neil Peart has a brother who opened a Musical instrument store in Kingston, Ontario, Canada appropriately titled "Peart Music" in the seventies.
I remember travelling down the main drag of Kingston, and seeing it.

i also remember being at a gas station on the outskirts of Willowdale north of Toronto in 1977, and hearing a live Rush bootleg being played at the station. I knew it was a boot, because it featured a song from All The World's A Stage that had some parts added to it that weren't on the official album.
