^Wow Thumbs Up Waiting for the day when Decemberists and Yes find their way to this part of the world. Opeth did and they were brilliant.

You know, Pekka, I was thinking about you earlier today. At the Finnish Embassy here in DC there is an exhibition called MyHelsinki, about the experiences of a group of 12 Washingtonians in your capital city. I think Micky and I will go to see it before the end of the month, even if it is bound to make me sad... I haven't been back to Finland in exactly 7 years, and I doubt I ever will. It's a long story, and I don't want to bore you with it, though.

It rained very hard all night, and it's raining again now... I slipped on the mud a couple of times this morning (wearing trainers, not fancy shoesWink), but thanks to my good sense of balance I did not fall. The worst thing is that's warm and humid, a kind of weather that really gets me down. Hopefully it seems next week things will be getting a bit better.

Anyone ever heard about the Irish music group Anuna?  This is just so enjoyable, I find it very relaxing.  They do a mix of Irish/Celtic folk music and medieval songs, a lot of the latter a cappella.  The singing is among the best I've ever heard and there's just some beautiful songs.

Embarrassed That's so nice to hear, actually I've been thinking about you and micky lately as well, haven't really seen you two since I fell in love with the Decemberists, in which your praising of them had a hand in. Smile Then recently I've seen some of your comments in this thread about the reasons for the absence... Hope it all goes well and you're free to go on with your life without any harassment.

That exhibition sounds very interesting, go by all means Thumbs Up I'm actually a bit ashamed of how little I know about my adopted hometown (after 20 years in Kuopio I moved to Helsinki to live with my girlfriend in 2006), it would be really interesting to see it through foreigners' eyes. I'd also love to hear your Finland story if it's not too painful to go through it.

I'm dead tired now, four days of going to work by bicycle is taking its toll, about 24 kilometres a day. Think I'll retire to bed Sleepy

Hope to see you around Raff Smile

I listened to that the other day and I was relatively unimpressed.

It was decent. Nothing more, nothing less. It was better at first, but the music became monotonous towards the last 5 tracks or so.

Says the guy who had the strangest conversion toward Animal Planet Collective I've ever seen.

Devil's Advocate: Alex did say that The Hazards of Love was "just pop music" for the most part.

*Goes back to studying*

I said it was pop music and not art music. Stern Smile

i.e. It's more comparable to pop music than something like Coltrane. Which is entirely true. I also said it was mostly too simplistic for my tastes in a way that kept it from being mindblowing.

I think I've heard Alex say the term "mindblowing" or "blow my mind" or "blew me away" (or something that effect) about 12 times this week.  LOL

Anyway, I think "art rock" is a dated and all but useless term.  Many of the songs are in fact pop structures, but I'm perfectly fine with that (much of Echolyn's music involves pop structures).

But Hazards of Love is a concept album, and a story- many of the songs flow almost as one seamless composition, and many of the parts are revisited in an appealing way (just as The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway does, albeit with fewer variations). What's more, the lyrics are unimpeachable (and let's be honest, it's hard to find good prog lyricists anymore- I find myself holding my head in shame at much of the words many artists have written).

Last night's episode was great, and it pretty much set up everything for the finale next week. I can't wait!

Getting twisted yet again, with John's new cuckoo plans, but mainly it featured nothing revolutionary, and it's just a kind of filler for the two-hours finale.

Gets a point, though, for seeing Richard and Ben speechless for the first time in the whole show.

Exactly what I said.

Expect for the great part. It was nothing special.

You know my thoughts on lyrics though---if the music doesn't keep me enthralled and the lyrics don't particularly stand out to me, then they're useless.

There are some exceptions. However, with Hazards of Love, I didn't particularly care to pay attention to the lyrics... and the music didn't keep my attention part of the time either.

It was decent, but it felt too long to me. It would actually be really good if they had cut alot of the stuff, I think. But I'll give it another spin.

Sigur Rios? I think you're in the possesion of a fake. Does it have a rapper on the cover. Yeah, it's not the right one. Wink
