I'd love to hear that album but it's impossible to find.

I seem to be spinning that latest Cherry Five quite a lot lately, Sam. I think it's a superb modern RPI album, a nice tough sound with an ocean of organ and keyboards all over it, plus nice raspy vocals and strong arrangements. I loved it when I first heard it months ago, and its maintaining strongly ever since. Speaking of modern RPI....have you or anyone else noticed there's apparently a modern `reboot' of Le Orme's `Felona e Serona' on the way (or might even be out now?)?? The Steve Roach one sounded good, Sam, totally reliable, although not unlike some of his other tribal-based ones. They're not really my favourite style of albums from him, but I think that recent `Monuments of Ecstacy' from a year or so back was one of the more interesting ones with a bit more variety for a `tribal'-type album. The Zoltan is terrific, a much better example of a mix of electronic and Goblin-like horror atmospheres. I think it wipes the floor with that lastest Zombi album `Shape Shift'. I mean, I get what Zombi are doing on it, I get their `schtick', and every track superficially sounds great (and the drumming, bass and keys all sound terrific), but it's all empty ear candy and wears thin after about 15 minutes. Are any of their other albums better or have any more substance?

That sounds great. I'm starting to listen to it right now
Yeah, I noticed that, it comes both in Italian and English. It seems completely unnecessary... just like every other Italian reboot
I guess when you collect plenty of his albums you start grouping them "Monuments Of Ecstacy" is still the album I have that I'm less familiar with.
I know what you mean, I felt that the last time I listened to it: I was trying to choose a track to recommend to someone but they all sounded quite flat I don't know them very well but maybe you could try "Spirit Animal"?

I think that Latte e Mielle one turned out pretty well, but I think it was likely an exception. A LOT of work and effort seemed to go into that one. Who knows, perhaps the same effort will have gone towards this Le Orme album? I'd still rather a brand new album, and besides, their previous studio album `La Via della Seta' from 2011 was terrific.
That Zoltan band, as well as Goblin-influenced groups liks Anime Morte, Morte Macabre, etc all have elements of their own sound with original ideas. Maybe Zoltan have the dance elements on a few tracks, but it still sounds very by-the-numbers hero worship (even if the playing is great). I don't think I'd buy another album from them, unless I suddently have an awakening with this one. A perfect background listen I think.

Yes, that one is very good, although I still prefer the original. I never heard that Le Orme album, I'll have to give it a listen. I still don't have the original "Felona e Sorona" in my collection (I only bought "Uomo di Pezza" last month) so I'll skip the new one.

I'll definitely hope to hear some samples of it before laying down any money for it, there's too any clasic reissues and/or new RPI albums probably more worthwhile spending cash on over a `remake'. sh*t, even Fabio Zuffanti's band at least had the balls to make an actual dodgy `sequel' instead of a straight out remake! `La Via della Seta' doesn't have Aldo on vocals, instead the singer from Metamorfosi, Jimmy Spitaleri, sings lead on it. He sounds a little stuffy and pompous at first, but hey, there's no shortage of Italian discs with just those sort of vocals, all part of the appeal! But it's a grand symphonic work all the same. I sadly haven't spun it in years.

True. Great album It's too bad Il Tempio Delle Clessidre didn't record Zarathustra though, that would be a nice remake.
That sounds great, and I think I'm used to that sort of vocals by now

Now, see that live performance of Zarathustra from Il Tempio is EXACTLY how a `remake' should be approached - a frequent reinvention that sounds exactly like it belongs to the new group, not a mere lazy `cover version'. I wish they'd put that performance out in either CD or vinyl...dang, I'd even settle for a download!

I've actually got a four star review of it ready to go (probably tomorrow)! But I do mention about a certain blandness to their music, which I think is mostly due to the super-polished production that gives them a crisp sheen. I think if they didn't make everything so over-worked on that their music would be a bit more lively and energetic. I've definitely found on all their albums that they take a few spins to come together, that the melodies and strong song-writing is a gradual reveal as opposed to being instantly impressed.

^ I think it was indeed because of the production but also because it's more than one hour long. First listen opinions don't mean anything though, especially with Prog
