My favorite PFM is when they are singing in English, but when it comes to Le Orme or Triade, i couldn't have it any other way than Italian.

I've never really tried to get into any of the Italian bands.  I've never come across any of their albums in any of the record stores that I frequent and I am adverse to import prices.  I have been able to download a couple of PFM albums off of eMusic and that is what I am using as a "gateway", I guess.  Not sure how much I will pursue it.
I've only heard a handful of Le Orme songs, and I have not heard of Triade.

I actually find it a bit distracting when PFM sings in English, especially if I know another version of the song in Italian already.  (ex.  "Generale" vs "Mr 9 til 5".)

edit: wait, my logic makes no sense.  The "Italian" version I used for my example is actually an instrumental ("generale") which they re-arranged and added english lyrics to ("Mr 9 til 5").  Could they actually be doing an instrumental in Italian? It's worth pondering.

I can't listen to English PFM, especially the version of Impressioni di Settembre is awful.

So as of last saturday, I'm a dad. Rather nice.

This is the reason I love the RPI I've heard so far. I just love the language. Perfect for singing!

I havent heard too much RPI yet though, just some PFM, Le Orme, Banco, Il Balletto di Bronzo, Semiramis and some other stuff. But Quella Vecchia Locanda are my favourite RPI band. Both of their albums are excellent, but the first is far superior, IMO.

Also, the title track on Locanda delle Fate's Forse Le Lucciole Non Si Amano Più is absolutely wonderful. The most beautiful song I've ever heard. Check it out if you haven't!

Thanks!

If you don't know them yet, do check out New Trolls, especially the first to Concerto Grosso albums. And UT. They were my first RPI love with PFM. After these two both of the Locanda's are my favourites.

Congratulations, Pekka, on being a father!

With PFM and me, the first albums i heard were the English ones, and they kind of stuck with me. For me, they are so "right".

There are some lovely Italian keyboard based trios out there that i would recommend apart from the well known Le Orme
There is Latte e Miele, The Trip, and previously mentioned, Triade. In the vein of early ELP or Triumvirat, but with a freshness all their own, as well.

I actually listened to that song a couple of days ago.  I hadn't heard it in a while and I remembered you praising it a lot.  My wife overheard it and asked if it was Roxy Music Confused.  I like playing Italian music when she's listening because it makes me feel sophisticated. Star

My favorite RPI artist is one I just discovered a few months ago on this forum, Franco Battiato.  Kind of a different sort of artist from the mostly symphonic RPI genre (he's more avant/psych/folk/electronic ??), but he's connected with me in ways few prog acts have.

You would have liked Micky.  He used to always talk about Franco Battiato.  I've not heard him yet myself.  Embarrassed

Yeah, I've seen you listening to him a lot. Must check him out, one day.

I don't know them, but I will check them out. The first two Concerto Grosso you say? The second one isn't too well received on this site, but I'll take your word for it and check it out nonetheless. Thanks for the tip!

I've read all of Micky's Battiato reviews.  It was actually Guldbamsen who recommended him to me though.  It clicked immediately with me.

I think there was a line or two in the vocals where he almost sounded like early Bryan Ferry.  It almost made sense at the time.

That may be, I couldn't tell. Haven't listened to too much Roxy or Ferry either.

She didn't really know any better.  She's not really a prog connoisseur.  All deep, dramatic baritone vocals probably sound like Bryan Ferry to her.  LOL

Both of them are quite mixed bags, the second might actually be more consistently good, though there are days when I don't feel like listening to the latter half of it. Not a big fan of the side-long "improv" of the first album either. If you're to get a CD version of it, I believe the only available pressing at the moment is one that has both of them on one disc, so you'll be getting them both for the price of one anyway Smile I still haven't had a chance to get my hands on the third edition of Concerto Grosso, I hear it's a good album.

Thanks, Scott Beer And my condolences on the retirement of Nick Lidström.
