The 1st sentence in the bio is wrong now, maybe was right in 2016 they are not disbanded they are alive and with a new EP, one more thing IMHO they are prog metal (Symphonic Metal) like Nightwish, Epica, Royal Hunt Etc. far away from Prog related (at least the new EP I just finished listening to) E&O Team: Thanks Mayer, bio is now accurate. About genre, may I suggest you to contact the Prog Metal team?

I wonder why. Here's a quote from Richard Sinclair's bancamp page:

^ I already asked Greg to delete it (and I believe it has to be deleted).
Bandcamp page still exists, no problem if Richard Sinclair will get some money.

^ Because, as you quoted, it is a "recording of indeterminate origin," i.e. a bootleg.
If Camel Productions will clean and release this record then we can add it.

^ I always thought our "no-bootleg policy" was for unauthorized releases. If this one is sold by the band, it becomes authorized... like an "official bootleg"?
Note that I'm just asking questions... I'm no expert in that matter. By the way, this entry is ONLY about the 2023 digital release of this bootleg. Not about illegal sources. We could even add the bandcamp link in the releases information to make it even clearer.

^ Julien, bootlegs are often a tricky case. But in my opinion not this one.
From bandcamp page you refer: "I almost hesitate to post this one, the sound is so miserable; recorded from the cheap seats on a shabby cassette. I did what I could to pretty it up, but there wasn't much to work with. So in the interests of completeness here it is, warts and all, until a better one turns up. Part 4 of our 1977 'Rain Dances' tour audience recordings. Mastered from analogue source, unknown generation. Pretty hissy, mono, but the complete show." If one of the band past members decided to present it to fans it doesn't make this record even a half-legal.

^ No problem, really. I was just surprised by the "please delete it" then "OK" dialog, without any justification from both parts. Now I can agree with you both.
But we could also contact Mirakaze about it. She usually adds albums carefully... and this entry is very recent.

^ OK, please contact Mira. Even if Greg deletes it, no problem to restore it.
By the way, if we'll keep it I would move it to Club/Fan because of its poor sound (all Camel live albums are of high sound quality), like many King Crimson live records for fans.

I've noticed that there is an error in the album cover photo of Nic Potter's album "New Europe - Rainbow Colours".

Sorry about the mess regarding the Camel album; I would have never considered adding it to the archive if it hadn't been uploaded to the official Bandcamp page of one the of the band members (although I'll admit that Mr. Sinclair seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel with what he puts on that page lately...). NotAProghead mentioned the King Crimson Collector's Club albums which are on the site despite many of them originating as bootlegs (IIRC?), and the same can be said for Frank Zappa's Beat The Boots albums. Sound quality also isn't really relevant, I think; again, some of the early King Crimson live albums are an audiophile's worst nightmare. On reconsideration however, I do think a fair objection can be raised against this particular album's inclusion, namely that it wasn't "released" by the band itself but by a single ex-member who now presumably reaps all profits that are to be had from it while the actual band in its current form still sees nothing of it, which is still preferable over none of the musicians earning anything but still isn't ideal. I didn't put that much thought into adding the album when I did; these are just my two quid at this moment. I won't be offended if it gets removed, so do what you wish; you two have more authority than me as far as I'm concerned!

While we're on the subject of bootlegs, I wonder about this Watcher of the Skies - 1972 live album on the Genesis page: https://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=77444
According to Discogs, this is an unauthorized release by some company called Audio Vaults: RYM is treating everything released by this label as a bootleg: I think it's a bootleg, but I'm not entirely sure because I couldn't find any other sources that can describe what this Audio Vaults label is up to. Discogs and RYM don't go into a lot of detail about how they reached that conclusion. |
