I've thought that it might be fun to teach accounting at a high school level, but I'm not interested in going back to school to get a degree in teaching.  I could probably teach accounting at night at a local college, if I really wanted to, but I'm not really looking for extra work, and it would be way to difficult to find the time during tax season.

I might consider teaching later in life...hopefully this whole silly accreditation mechanism will be non-existent by then.

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous. It's amazing that I'm qualified to teach at a college level, but not at a high school level? It's completely absurd what you have to go through to teach in a High School.

I did it 2 years in an alternative education school.  In other words, 90 young men on their way to prison if they didn't straighten up.  I loved it.

I can only imagine how it would be in an environment where the majority of the students behave.

I can't deal with making someone want to learn. It's why I tutor and teach college. Tutoring, the people want you there. They actually listen and care about what you have to say. In college, at least if they don't want to come to class, they just don't come. Nobody is forcing them to sit in class. I have no desire to make anyone learn anything. I could care less if anyone learned anything. Making people learn something is not my goal as a teacher or tutor.

Also, the subject matter would bore the hell out of me. AP Calc courses are taught for the AP exam, which is idiotic. The only other HS level course would be a Physics course, but they tend to only cover kinematics and Newtonian stuff, which is far from my favorite part of physics.

I endeavor to make my classes both engaging and relevant, such that most students will want to learn.  There will always be people who don't want to be there, but at the schools I applied to this morning, there aren't too many of those.

Rob, how long will it take for you become accredited in NC and what do you need to do?

I think I just need a few additional credit hours and to take one more test (I already took one of them and passed before we moved to FL).  I could probably have it all done in one year, but they give you a 3 year temporary license.

I'm toying with the idea of knocking out those credits in the course of obtaining a master's degree- MA nets you another $200+ a month in Cumberland County.

OK, but how much do you have to spend to get the degree?

My mom's 50th birthday is tomorrow and I have no idea what to get her. Thankfully one of my friends volunteered to help me pick something out. Which is good because I could use some female advice for this. Embarrassed

It'd be one of those things where you wouldn't start seeing a return for at least a few years I'm sure.  It's only 36 credit hours.

$2064.50 (plus miscellaneous fees plus books) for 9 credit hours or more.

That's $8,258 just for tuition.  Unhappy LOL

Buy her a two week cruise to the Bahamas. Moms always seem to enjoy that.
