I wonder if the lurkers are still hanging around. Frustrating such a disappearance of listeners we had virtually all last year when  the web  was very inconsistent - I don't think we've had problems with broadband  since June

no apologies needed, imho - Billy Joel is one of the country's premeir songwriters, i think.

and continued to put out quality work up until his retirement (also imho)

classics indeed.... "in the middle of the night...." (river of tears?) excellent stuff.

he seems to be lumped the box with Elton John - I suppose that tour they did together, and of course they sing play piano write song but then? - but I'll take Joel's songbook and records every time. And there is a touch of brilliance in that tune, We Didn't Start The Fire

well, i'm a huge Elton fan so i see no problem there either....

when i first heard Billy, the influence was quite obvious, but with a very original and very American slant
on what he does. the more proggy Elton, also, if you will...

but i love'em both. early Elton was a huge influence on my thinking about pop music back then.

I was introduced to our Reg from  the very beginning, when working in a record shop. The record label (Dick James Music's DJM Records???) which released John's very album, were lending copies to record shops to play "in-store", so encourage sales. So heard this in a "working environment", the record did not appeal. I think  my original criticism or lack of personal appeal, have in part remained. Even in sophisticated/clever popsongs I'm expecting verse chorus verse etc. but there seemed to be a predominance of verse without the reliefof chrous. However, I admit since hearing that record what in 1970 or '71,  I have not gone back - and the other faint memory is of lack of hooks. Later albums (or rather later tunes) certainly have memorable tunes/hooks - but as a result I stick to a Greatest Hits album by EJ.

what a great playlist!

a little John Martyn also, fitting and very cool.  Thumbs Up

we've certainly been losing a lot of excellent musicians the last few years, it seems.
(some not particularly old even, like Martyn)

this should be a wonderful listen, eh? ya ya ya!

Spot the connection - at least for the first 150 minutes? You will find the answer quite shocking.

Glad to see you are wired in. Don't forget to plug the show to friends and get them to switch from other listening tonight for 3 hours, for instance cable  TV. Obvious omissions: Sparks, Mars Volta, David Fuiczynski, Neil Young's Transformer, anything from the Watt label and think there was an obscure band called Wheatstone Bridge.......

Begs the question are there/have there been bands called: Fusebox, Pylon, Wire, Cable, Trunking, Busbar, Battery (dry cell or wet cell or lithium types), Conduit, Home Supply, Domestic Supply, Electricity Meter, etc.
