Another one when one is getting older ( a bit ): I went to a drink at work, for my co-workers I left early. For me it was about the right time. I can't take that much beer anymore. I am not drunk but no more for a while thanks!!

I can definitely relate to that. When I first started my current job (in 1987) I used to go drinking 2 or 3 times a week. If I got into work the next day with a hangover, a greasy sausage sandwich from the canteen (with brown sauce) would soon sort that out. Now I go out occasionally, have maybe 2 or 3 pints and it takes me about 3 days to recover!

cold porridge with salt is best for that "grumpy" look (like a bulldog chewing a wasp) first thing in the morning...

I used to know a joke about Horlicks... and Hormones, come to think of it ... long forgotten now, though...
I'll have you know I still have all my own teeth though, Fanny - well, a classic 1970s combination of twisted molars, chipped enamel & ancient fillings, anyway

at my school the cane was used regularly - it was this humiliating punishment that made us into the upstanding citizens we are today - having regular nightmares and always looking over our shoulder....

Being told to bend over, baring one's buttocks to an older man & receiving a damned good thrashing never did me any harm
Oh, sorry - you were talking about school, were you?

Between the porridge, Headmasters and swots, it's getting so an American can barely fathom this place.

don't worry, no one else can fathom this place either, especially the contributors - anything for a laugh on a cold winter morning!

Now I go out and don't drink anything because I'm driving and still get a hangover the next day!
