Would love to know your thoughts on this one David.  It's about time I pulled the trigger on an order with Soleil Zeuhl, and I'm a big One Shot fan, so...

Hey ho Simon! Sorry for my tardiness but I've been dealing with some monstruous kids that simply won't leave my head after work. It's so loud inside the ol cabeza that I struggle to do anything of meaning...let alone something without - such as shooting the breeze on PA fx, which I miss.

Sympathies - I find my job can have a similar effect, except the monstrous kids are usually wearing suits. Old enough to know better Angry

I am still warming up to the elephant as I have been on more of a Krautrock kick lately (with the odd FSOL spin here and there. Lifeforms is such a beautiful album!), but safe to say that I was a tad surprised...and slightly annoyed when I first span it. I think I was expecting something completely different - something wild and crazily zeulish. What I found instead was fiery jazz rock with overt hooks and melodies Funny how that sounds like a compliment.
It is now though. I just had to readjust a bit. Next time I give it a whirl I'll be sure to update you in here.

Actually that fiery jazz rock with overt hooks and melodies sounds pretty tasty to me right now.

Lifeforms, now there is a record Cool Thumbs Up

Yeah suits can be equally monstruous indeed. I've met quite a few in my day. Kudos to you for putting up with them. I gather you only need to quote Wall Street from time to time to soften their armour?
No elephant was played since last time. I fell down a jazz hole and couldn't get up again. While I was in there I did have a marvelous tile together with Mwandishi, Pharoah Sanders, Bob James, Sun Ra and some live albums from Miles. Good times.

Recent purchases:
Gong - Rejoice! I'm Dead
Ingranaggi Della Valle - Warm Spaced Blue
North Sea Radio Orchestra - Dronne
Sun Ra - Space is the Place (vinyl copy to compliment my cd)
Zwoyld - 200.000
Bushman's Revenge - Jazz, Fritt Etter Hukommelsen
Camera - Phantom Of Liberty
Brian Eno - The Ship

It seems most of those here who buy vinyl are either buying new releases or new vinyl of old releases.
Does anybody other than me look for only old  original vinyl of prog and psych and jazz...?

Confused

Nah...it's a mix of new releases, second hand and re-releases for me. Not too hung up on original vinyl as it seems like a ridiculously pricey hobby. Especially for music one can aqcuire elsewhere for the price of an orange

The best way to soften them is boiling briskly for five minutes, then serve with mayonnaise and crispbreads.

Next time you're going down that jazz rabbit hole here's something to check out:

Of those I only have the NSRO and Bushman's Revenge.  Both are pretty sweet to my ear!

Holy swingking that was one sweet track!! Thanks a bunch Simon. Really appreciate that. Tribal, enigmatic, tip toeing on psychelic and with a whiff of the desert. Yup I am sold. Onto the list it goes (at the very top though).

Are you telling me that you do not own Sun Ra's Space is the Place? If that is the case, then you have something to remedy. One of the most deliciously saucy space funk fusion albums ever. Sorta like Herbie's Headhunter crew simultaneously did acid and tried reinventing cool jazz - ending up with something strangely enamouring.

Zwoyld is also very much recommended if you dig a little psych drenched organ with your Zeuhl;-)

What do you consider original vinyl. LP's that were available on the release date on any country or from the country of origin? Anyway, I bought some lately.

Vinyl:
ELP - Pictures at an Exhibition
Marillion - Clutching at Straws
Strawbs - Grave New World
Brainticket - Cottonwoodhill (Only recent reissue. I never heard a single note from it, I hope it's good)

CD:
Handwrist - Metropolis
Handwrist - A Vibe to the Perplexed
Handwrist - Rough Fluff

Musical equipment:
Korg SQ-1 Step Sequencer
E-Bow Plus

I started buying vinyl (again) about a year ago and I only buy new music.
Out of 450 LPs only four were released before 2000 and they were from the late 1990s.
I keep my new vinyl separate from my original 60s and 70s vinyl.

All amazing, Tom!

Sagi and I both adore that Rhun one, a very dark Zeuhl release! A friend once said she felt really seedy after hearing it! My kinda girl! I haven't listened to it in ages, I keep forgetting to dig the CD out again.

I gave the Hawkwind one a very positive review on here a couple of weeks, I think it's a ripper. Do you know what Daniel thinks of that latest one?

On my way to an old beat down second hand record shop here in Aalborg trying to tell myself NOT to go completely apefeaces crazy when I get there.
It is just such a nice environment to be in, and the old dude behind the counter can be so persuasive...
See you on the other side hopefully not all that broke *crosses fingers*

Love the Rhun album. Very first record to hit the TT from this lot.
Just heard side 1 of the Hawkwind and it's great. Nice review, btw. Dan likes it a lot, says it's their best since Alien 4.
The new BBT album is sounding wonderful. And both Arabs In Aspic albums are blowing me out.
The Tusmorke album is something special. You ought to give it a go.

Well, despite some issues with the sound quality, the few tracks I selected to hear sounded brilliant - Newport Hospital (but Dave didn't fuzz his Hammond) Enneagram (amazing), Wring Out The Ground (quite different to Civil Surface) and Saturn, which reminded me of Arzachel. I would say get yourself a copy, even though it's unofficial. Hey, should I ever cross paths with Dave, I'll throw a few bucks his way

They get their groove from having two really good drummers, plus a tuba player putting down the basslines. Secret ingredient is Shabaka Hutchings on sax. He's a man to watch in the British music scene, with several projects including Melt Yourself Down, Shabaka and the Ancestors and The Comet is Coming. TCiC is improv-psychedelia with sax, synths and drums, really quite nice:

I have a bunch of albums from Jupiter's favourite son (Sun!), but not that one curiously. Yes I should put that right, before long.

Yeah, I'm gong to check that out for sure. I like it when someone brings a different keyboard approach to the Zeuhl thing, like Eskaton with those groovy shimmery synths. Which always make me think of witchy alien chicks in silver suits from some 50s 'B' movie. They should have been the house band on a flying saucer.

I just had myself a better listen of 200.000. What really sets it apart from other such zeuhl inclined acts is the way they use the guitars. The whole album is full of electric twangy and slightly psychedelic sprinklings. Maybe I am losing it but with the add on of some chanting medicine man singing I again feel transported to the Navajo country. Quite a few recent records are doing this Circle's Pharaoh Overlord and Electric Orange's Vol 10 instantly spring to mind.

I'll be sure to check out some more jazz when I get back home from my little (read: far too big) vinyl adventure. Thanks mate.

My initial plan was to get a few used but good looking vinyls and sure enough I went through a to å (Denmark) finding quite a few gems along the way. A good hour later I see a whole room full of new vinyl and instantly decides to dump the old for new...
yup ended up buying 11 of which 4 are double LPs (some I already own on cd but just couldn't resist:

Brast Burn - Debon
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity
Soft Machine - Vol Three
Haroumi Hosono - Cochin Moon
Sunbirds - s/t
Karuna Khyal - Alomoni 1985
Clark Hutchinson - A = MH 2
White Noise - An Electric Storm
Heron Oblivion - s/t
Chickencage Experience - An Eggspoilation Movie
