It was my first too, and I bought it because I saw you posting it here.  I had heard about the band, but had heard that the leader of the group was a real jerk, so I had no interest in checking them out originally.  But when you posted this album, I thought there must be something good going on in their music.  And there's something about their overall vibe, no matter what style they're playing, that just feels so honest and authentic to me, not contrived at all.  And seeing some interviews with the band leader has convinced me that he's not really a jerk at all, no more than any other super-focused artist.

Is that Edgar Broughton in your avatar?

Why yes it isCool Been digging some of my old records out of a moving box last weekend. So many memories in there.

And I agree. There's an honesty about the music. Even if they're doing the 60s all over again, it still sounds unique to these ears. Personally I think Anton is one of the most gifted songwriters of the past 20 years.

The people calling Anton a jerk are probably doing so after watching that documentary about the band called Dig! They're all completely out of their heads on every illegal substance known to man throughout it, and especially Anton seems particularly f*cked up. Funny thing is that it more than likely made their career. I'm not sure I would've known about them, had I not seen it.
I urge you to see it at some point Steve. It is so funny. At one point you see Anton in a big white fur hat strapping on some roller skates while under the influence of god knows what. Unable to skate at all, he then proceeds to head on down for The Dandy Warhols' records release at some bar, and starts handing out free BJM vinyls to the guests outside of the partyLOL
This flick is sooooo messed up...

Oh I actually found it on YouTubeShocked Here it is, if you ever find the time:

I gave her a first taste of Monty Python yesterday.  I have to pick and choose skits because a lot of them have adult content.  Others just kind of get lost on her - even the dead parrot skit - in large part because of the Brit slang and accents.  but there was one skit I showed her which she loved, from the Secret Policeman's Ball, with Cleese and Rowan Atkinson, an interview about beekeeping.

what were we talking about again?
