And Lo, sadly comes the day, where I work out once and for all that I will never buy another single Rush album. Clearly they are the sort of band where you're either in with them, and by in I mean absolutely mad about pretty much everything they do, or not in, where you're left scratching your head trying to work out what the fuss is.
Sadly for me, technically skilled musicians aside, the proggier albums have the screeching unbearable vocals, then the later ones have calmer vocals but more streamlined and less interesting music with barely any instrumental breaks.
I've tried for years to `force myself' to really dig them, but it's time to give up. `2112' is the closest one I really like from them, so probably that will be the sole one I enjoy.
Best to leave the band to those who really do feel so passionate about them. |
What do you think of "Moving Pictures"? I think it has better vocals and it's still interesting musically. I don't like the vocals much, but he sounds better than on the last tour, from what I saw on Youtube. "Xanadu" was perfect until he started singing

^ It was my second listen to Biglietto and I ordered the CD after the first listen. It is very well done with great comps and musicianship and the vocals fit the music very well. Right now I put it above their earlier works but I should revisit those just to be sure.
I really like Cybotron because I prefer electronic music that is more melodic and less free form.
BTW...Have you checked out Prisma Circus from Spain? They're heavy psych rock and I think you'll like them.

^ It's that good? I'll have to give it a listen
It's a nice and accessible album. I also like the free form electronic music though... and free form Psych Rock too
No, but I still have to check Joseph Magazine that you talked about the other day.
By the way, did you see the topic I created about next year's Psych festival?

^ I saw your post and it looks like a great show. Will Electric Moon perform with Papir? I recently purchased Oresund Space Collective on 2xLP vinyl and they should sound great live.
When you get around to listening to Prisma Circus you should also check out Poseidotica from Argentina. They are heavy instrumental psych rock and well worth a listen.

^ Papermoon is there, so yes they will. Which one did yo buy? I need to check some bands, there are two Californian Stoner bands. I hope Hedersleben will be confirmed, since Nik Turner will play there.

Damn you guys are listening to some awesome music - and Roj, you make me wanna put on a Schulze album right this minute I'll wait for later. Just something about night time and ze Klaus - especially those lonely, and quite beautiful hours between 2 and 4, when everyone else is asleep.
Can't wait to hear what you think about that collab between Øresund Space Collective and Papir, Gary
So far today:
Blank Manuskript - The Waiting Soldier Africa Express - Africa Express presents Terry Riley's In C (Absolutely wonderful album this one ) Comedy of Errors - Spirit (Starts out ok and then loses me completely)
Right now I'm listening to a great new Finnish act named K-X-P. They dish out a very contemporary sounding electronic music that still manages to convey certain Krautrock touches.....and you can dance to it

^ I can understand your concern about the vinyl. If there's a problem with the mix or production you would probably get a copy from the same batch.
I liked the new OT but probably liked Jurassic Shift just as much. I also have Erpland but haven't gotten into it yet. I'm new to the band but their style of music is very easy to listen to.
What is your opinion of Joseph Magazine?

^ I agree. Generally it's not a genre that cares much about quality, both the musicians and the listeners.
Yes, it's easy to listen, great background music but also interesting if listened attentively. I heard some 10 albums from them but still don't have any in my collection. I'm hoping to get a lot of their music from their merch stand :P
I'm not much into Prog Metal but this one wasn't awfully long like so many from the genre.
