I'm not sure personally whether I'd buy a refurbished machine but out of those two, the Gateway is the better.  64bit is the way to go.  Plus it's 2.4GHz. over 2.3GHz.... but that won't make too much difference.

I'd maybe think about either downgrading to XP or upgrading to Windows 7... but I think Vista has been ironed out a lot now.  I've personally never used it.

Although Pat would buy an Ubuntu machine 'cause he's cool.

Less DDR Memory but does Vista use it all?  I know XP had a cap at 3.2 Gbs (I think).  But aye, 64 bit ftw!

Not even my laptop os 64 bit.  Just a lowly 32 bit.

The 64-bit Vista will use it all.

I already have a copy of Windows 7 thanks to my college, so I would just install that anyways. I don't like buying refurbished, but it is one of the best deals I've found. I also don't like buying integrated graphics, but with over 4GB of RAM I wouldn't think it is a problem.

If you can easily install Win7 64-bit, get the second machine.

The second one has a Core 2 Quad.  64-bit, 4 processors (cores).

Matt, I think getting a Quad is a bit of an overkill, but at $500 what the hell I suppose.

Erm... they both have Intel Core 2 Quads...
