I gave The Yumyum Tree three stars and I've never heard Jaga Jazzist, which I'm told is good.

Go with the latter.

I might not...I tend to be myopic in my listening lately with what is listed on PA, and I've not noticed them.

But I will check them out now, thanks!  Smile

y-yeah, that really goes for the entire category. I receiving messages for Guy Manning, after rating A Matter Of Life And Death stars. "Are you saying I'm a weak artist? Did you even buy my music??" LOL

I'm pushing an ounce of harshness and nitpicking into my RYM ratings, since it's an all-music chart, and I try to make it more definitive than around here, for instance (although that's not entirely true, I'm not trying make anything special except ordering my collection and doing it purely for myself). So I can't acknowledge your album sticks that much out of the whole lot for me.

Did we ever chat on the Waters subject, btw? Because I think you've come up with very good musical ideas (or at least the first listen impression dropped on me like that - after which, I could only say the impression sticks duly noted). That's definitely not questionable, and I think you're also definitely in a top of PA forumers-turned-artists actually knowing what & how to do things (especially when devoting to a particular progressive style i.e. Igor with post-rock, you with symphonic).

So, really, I was and am really impressed with the vision.

Alas, the album is somewhere within 2.5-3/5 (5-5.5/10), yes. It started oscilatting after the first listen, so I'm not entirely sure. There's room for improvement, and I think you would agree that's a good thing. A sort of first good step capable of leading to much more.  Smile

I appreciate that Rico- I put this sh*t together during three-four years of my life and am extremely proud of it because I'd never done it before (and because I think the songwriting kicks ass...sorry, but I think that  LOL).

Anyway, I'd love it if you PM me some more specific criticisms- you and I have very different opinions about music, and I would really appreciate hearing your "review" of my music (I know you don't write them much anymore here).  I realize the vocals and production are lacking for most people, but you strike me as someone who can effectively criticize the actual music itself, and I'd love to hear what you have to say.  PM me sometime if you get the time.

"actual criticism" - lolno
you shouldn't really form that idea, because it's no edge on either side. In real life, I'm still studying music, I'm still working on forming as a musician who can guide himself towards a good interpretation, or form such opinions when working with a group (like in chamber music, when we have to skip from coordinating our play with adding the interpretations, expressivity, character, details etc.).

not really keen on sending you a list of "these stinked" either. I just gave you my general viewpoint right now. But sure, maybe when I feel ready (more listens, and whatnot), I'll be up for more chat.

Right, Megaritual nothing special, but I've heard this type from ORL before, and I'm not truly bothered. As long as it's not gruesome pseudo-avant experimenting...

Guy Manning is kind of a dick sometimes - I got a pm from him regarding a review for The Tanget reeming me out for not mentioning him as a founding member.

Ass.

It was funny in class today. My instructor was showing us how to do something in Visual Basic that she had just learned that eliminates a ton of work at the very end of class, and everyone is still sitting there going "OMG That's so cool". What a bunch of nerds.

I've always wondered about that at times as well.  I've tried Norton and McAfee and I don't really care for either of them.

I have NOD32 and it don't slow down the machine... I've heard that Panda is also good and don't make the computer lazy... but Vista is really the problem... can't wait to change to Mac...
I use Avast!, best free anti-virus ever.
The Vista hate is really unwarranted at this point or go Win 7(students get it for $30). I have used Vista since day one, I have had no problems other than driver issues the first couple of months,

It's all about the graphics chip and graphics RAM, and since laptop graphic chips sometimes shares main RAM, slowdown issues occur. Also, due to power and heat issues, they run slower than their desktop counterparts.

See, that's exactly why I value your opinion.

You study music.  I do not.

I just learned some chords and a few licks and play- that's about it.  LOL

That is why I'm willing to spend extra on a graphics card.
