Yep, that bugs me too - or worse still, not using the paper inner-sleeve at all
One anal-question... when putting a CD back in it's case, do you put it back square and true, so the picture matches the tray picture, and the writing can be read without turning your head?
...or is it just me?

to work in there you need a degree in surliness, a Doctorate in daylight robbery and a PHd in arrogance.

No Dean,I do exactly the same as you.
When I used to buy vinyl albums I would go to WH Smiths to buy the anti-static lined inner-sleeves and heavy-weight plastic outer-sleeves.
If the album came with an inner-sleeve with lyrics and/or illustrations I would take the disc out of that and put it into the anti-static sleeve because the disc would wear the edges of the original inner-sleeve.

I did that too. Those WH Smiths prices were a bloody rip-off, I seem to remember they were something like 10p each.

^ added to that the cost of a PVC outer sleeve, and anti-static record brush or Emitec anti-static cleaning cloth and "automatic disc-cleaning turntable brush" thingy made by Ronco, and deluxe record carrying case...
i had one of those Ronco thingys - it did a good job of grinding fine dust particles into the bottom of the groove....

I do that as well, or try to do it at all times. So no, it's not just you. You have a bit of O.C.D, showing through there. I thought it was just me that did that too. Edit: I forgot to ask... when putting the inside sleeve back, do you put the hole (as in the one the vinyl goes in) at the top (the top when stacked on a shelf) or the opposite end to the outer sleeve hole (as in the spine of the outer sleeve)? Does that even make sense? Do you also put Side A facing the front?

1. OCD? nah - if I see one crooked I don't have the compelling urge to re-align it
2. Surely if you stacked you LPs that way a) dust can get in and b) you can't read the spines.
3. No, that is anal.

You misunderstood me on point 2, I believe. You place the sleeve as normal when stacking, so you can read the spine. I am referring to the inner sleeve here. Do you put the hole facing upwards (when in stack position) or at the spine end? Neither of the above will 'cause any dust to get in and you can still read the spines.

Whatever way prevents the disc from falling out of the inner sleeve when you remove it from the outer sleeve, which I believe would mean hole up in your explanation.

My explanation is shoddy but it seems you understand. I tend to go for the spine end myself, it just seems more secure that way for me. There is little to no chance of the disc falling out then. Tight-fitting inner sleeves are also a pain.

It's quiet in here today. Think I'll just brew up and have a quick spin of Nursery Cryme while I've got the place to myself.
the biscuit tin is empty! Whose turn was it to get the biccies in? And I think that the milk is on the turn as well...

No matter. Tea, biccies and prog - what more does a man need (aside from a lock on the door so Mrs Syzygy can't come in and remind him about putting that shelf up)?

Just think of it as a shelf for your Zeuhl collection. I'm still plodding through Ne Zhdali's discography... some of it is very good indeed. Edit: oops, I thought this was the RIO Appreciation Thread!
