Hey Truthy,  I was hoping you'd show up, I want to ask you something. How come you're a fan of classic alternative rock? That stuff was popular a decade ago, and most of the fans are people who were around back then.

Which stuff would that be? Like what artists in particular?

Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkings, Neutral Milk Hotel, Doves if I'm not wrong (basically late 90s early 00s music that you keep mentioning).

I'm not sure why I like them, Radiohead I found on this site. With Neutral Milk Hotel I saw an album cover that I thought looked neat so I bought the album. And with Smashing Pumpkins, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was for sale for like $5 at a CD store.

I actually listen to them more than I realize.

I see, it was more of a series of coincidences. If you want some recommendations in this area, let me know.

Well actually if you could give me a band that's a great blend over SP's emotional playing and NMH's folky-indie rock, I would love you Alex.

I don't think there was much classic alt. rock with a proeminent acoustic approach, or at least I don't know it. How about Urban Hymns?

Also, do you know Doves?

Gots me Urban Hymns but do not know Doves.

I always loved that single of theirs which got them huge recognition, but I never got to checking their albums.

Doves are great:

And yes, James not hating some alt.rock is definitely a shocking event in the life of the Shred community.

Question: how come I still clicked play even though I saw yaoi in the title?

I was going to argue with you Caio, but DT's only Platinum releases are the live DVDs, lol. And Mellon Colie and the Infinite Sadness is 9x platinum! I'm fine with the idea of them as a "genre", but I dislike how alt-rock and indie are still seen as "alternative" when they are so incredibly popular.

It does not bother me that people like NHM. It bothers me that people think they're "weird". They're not.

"Alternative" is a stylistical descriptor since a long time ago, it's indie that these band aren't any more (though it must be mentioned that "indie-rock" is also a stylistical descriptor up to a certain extent).

Lame excuses.

Who was excusing what?

u, for alternative bands selling out and still being called alternative.

Alternative is what they play, there is no other name to their style. Give me a better name and I'll use it. And who exaclty sold out? There is definitely no band who sold out in my list of favourites. U2 maybe, but that's debatable (IMO they were from the very beginning on the accessible side of post-punk).

Their albums sold out, lol.

But srsly now, I don't like ~90% of all alt. rock out there, but I don't care for 99.999999....% of it, so chillax bro.

Dead Can Dance
Death Cab for Cutie (it's a shame they took their name from a much more awesome band's song)
The Decemberists
Depeche Mode
Faith No More
GY!BE
Polly Jane Harvey
Incubus
Mew
Modest Mouse
Mogwai
Placebo
Primus
QotSA
Sigur Ros

Although that list is pretty sh*t.

I did deliberately pick bands/artists you have probably heard and some I definitely know you have.

Everyone in the world has heard a Tori Amos song.

I haven't listened to them.

Oh, I've also listened to Primus but I didn't like it very much.

Thanks for the tip. Apparently that famous hit they had was called "Two Doctors Princes".
