Use the grammar police gun on American-English men/woman and Harry, who is just annoying. Wink

But they're pronounced differently. LOL

Americans tend to emphasise the O more.

The way the English pronounce Colour is actually closer to the Colour spelling.

Bump.

Most Aussies are idiots though.
I'd rather not have to write out that extra u each time.

James you should know that English spelling wasn't standardized until midway through the 19th century, so all this stuff about the early settlers' spelling is a bunch of bs.

Alex. I like Adrian Belew a lot too as a vocalist but, ever since I know David Byrne, I realised that Belew just ripped him off. LOL

When you take english classes as a second language, they teach you that "color" is the true spelling. They also teach you that "colour" is tolerated if only to avoid annoying englishmen rants. Wink

I'm not the most familiar with Byrne, I know some stuff, but they don't sound THAT similar to me. It's like saying Geddy and Labrie sound similar or that Fish and Gabriel sound similar.

I can kinda see what you mean, but I just don't hear a huge similarity, you know?

I saw it; I just was multitasking and didn't get the chance to respond.

I'm not going to argue either over something so stupid. LOL

Indeed I do.

But there were still some standard spellings even before the first dictionaries appeared.  That's how the dictionaries got their words.  They didn't just decide "oh, we will spell 'colour' with a 'U' just because we can".  No, they would likely have used sources of the word and decided to spell 'colour' that way.

Samuel Johnson's dictionary was much earlier than the 19th century.  Although it was not as accurate or as advanced as the first Oxford English Dictionary.

I don't know. To me, it sounds exactly the same. I've also read a high number of reviews complaining about this. And since Belew has played with David Byrne and Talking Heads a lot and has often said that he was a big fan of David Byrne, I think it indeed affected him a lot.

It's not that much of a bad thing though. I love Byrne's voice so I'm happy I get to hear it in King Crimson's 80s album. LOL

Hmm, I understand the love for FZ's composition, but never entirely got the love for his guitar playing.
I mean, he wasn't bad, but there is something about his style, particularly on the Shut Up and Play Yer guitar series, that sounds amateurish and a little annoying at times.

Oh, I'm sure it influenced his style, particularly on the 80s Crimson albums.

Hmm... I don't know, haha. It doesn't sound the same to me, at least.

His guitar playing was so unique and consistently manages to reach so many levels of depth to me on so many of his albums and in different styles that he has grounded himself as not just my favorite composer of all time but also my favorite guitarist.

Contrast his tones on "Watermelon in Easter Hay" and "Willie the Pimp", both of which are absolutely genius, especially within context.

Again, comes down to some subjectivity though. But he's easily my favorite guitarist. Smile

He's playing was definitely unique, but still, it never gelled with me.
Some of his solos are pretty cringe worthy to my ears to be honest, sometimes they just seem like after thoughts rather than something he bothered to think over properly before laying it down on the record.

I never got that impression, really.
