Good Ol' Todd. One of the few celebrities who I have had the pleasure to "meet". Don't forget to mention the every other album issue that I have with Todd. One good, one different.

Ah, thanks!
I won't be there but I was just curious, 'cause I've seen them before with Jared and I know Melissa is meeting Jared later.
Some advice, Melissa:
1. don't forget to buy Jared a drink 2. don't turn up late (twice) 3. don't get your cash card eaten by an ATM and therefore only have a tenner on you
Sorted.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Anyhow, is anyone familiar with Carptree. A very enjoyable band, methinks, but completely non-RIO. They are listed in Neo, which I suppose is a decent fit, but I am kind of thinking that with the Art Rock split that they might fit nicer in Crossover prog. Oh well, that is only kind of important. I still need to track down Insekt from them, but I really enjoy their other albums. |
I *love* Carptree - they write some of the catchiest prog going - I get where you're coming from with the Xover thing, but to me Neo is just fine for them (I got to have one modern Neo band to rave about ) - Insekt isn't as immediate as Man Made Machine, but it's a fine album... I need to get hold of their first two albums.

I didn't know you were friends...maybe we should have got you to write the bio!! I bet you didn't know he's been sat on the backburner in Crossover for the past 6 months, awaiting a bit of TLC...

Fair enough. Probably explains why they like them. Lord knows, I probably love catchy prog more than anyone else on the site. You should definitely get a hold of the first two. Do you maybe need copies of them in order to evaluate possibly moving them to crossover?

Now that I have a few bios under my belt, I might have been happy to oblige. It is kind of fun researching bands and writings bios in a strange sort of way. I guess that I just haven't done enough of them yet.
15 years ago, a former co-worker of mine was a really big fan of Todd Rundgren; I had never heard of him. Knowing the kind of music I liked to listen to, he let me listen to a couple of his albums. I enjoyed them well enough, and when he came to town to do a show I went with my co-worker to see it with him. Anyhow, when we were walking to the theater we happened to be walking by his tour bus at the same time that he got off of the bus. My co-worker recognized him immediately and we ran over and got to say "hi", shake his hand and wish him well with the show. My co-worker asked him some more questions and had a few more things to say to him. I barely knew who he was so I was just happy to say hi and shake his hand. As I remember it was a really good show too.

^^nice claim to fame, Scott...
my most impressive ( ) was a 5 minute chat with Geoff Downes, when I saw Asia support Kansas in Hamburg, back in 2001...(he was intrigued and pleased to see a Brit in the German audience... . I've also met Alan Reed from Pallas and Steinar Krokmo from Pagan's Mind, but I'm not really one for the meet and greet, generally... .

I've already mentioned this elsewhere and there is a picture in the rogue gallery, but I got to meet the Grumpy Old Man himself when he did a show in Toronto last summer. That was quite a thrill, at least for me. As was mentioned in the Rogue Gallery, he didn't look all that thrilled.

Oh, my goodness... Todd Rundgren!!
*swoons* Ah, the sulky, petulant, ornery genius with the Best Voice in the Universe... My sole live experience of Todd was marred somewhat by the preponderance of middle-aged black t-shirt wearers who kept muttering, heckling and demanding 'Just One Victory'. Sigh! I cannot wait now to write a review of 'A Wizard, A True Star'. That was my favourite album for a long time. I hear he has a new album although I haven't heard it. His 'Best Of' is always in heavy rotation round here, though. I love singing along to 'Freedom Fighters' and 'Real Man' whilst doing the washing up. Jamesy: if you lived a more conventional lifestyle, you'd probably know what the date was. My appointment with Jared is on the 31st. (Thanks for the advice, by the way... Jared, I will most certainly buy you a drink! I might buy myself one too! )

^^Melissa...Utopia are already in the archives...I was just knocking up a short bio for his solo stuff... although with Todd, there are occasions where the line between solo and group gets rather blurry..

I've always been fond of "We Gotta Get You A Woman" and of course, "I don't want to work, I want to post on PA all day". (i.e. Bang on the Drum All Day for those who couldn't tell what I was trying to sing in my off-key wrong-pitched voice).

^ I don't have much Utopia (mostly TR solo) - so there's not much for me to say about them!

I don't think that I have heard Fair Warning; as I am pretty certain that it is not the same as Van Halen's Fair Warning.
