Any good?  I've heard it is quite weird...

Yes, it's quite weird but a work of genius. I highly recommend it.

Well, you, YOU-   It's never good enough, is it?

You know, my dad's also saying that I should watch better movies... I have seen Metropolis and Nosferatu a while ago, those were more "arty". Do you have any recommendations?

your tastes are scary, your dad is right...carry on the german expressionist cinema for instance! well, it depends what you are looking for and your artistic sensibility...my tastes are also scary in cinema, but totally non commercial and devoted to art for art!

Hey Philippe, thanks for the tips! I doubt whether they're as good as the Looney Tunes episode in which Porky and Daffy have to sleep in one bed, but you can't really blame the expressionists for not being able to achieve the impossible, can you?

If you want something of that order, than 'Cabaret' really can't be beaten.

I'm not kidding, its one of my favorites. How can you critisize anyway when half your list is sh*te?

And "Cabaret" stuff it. I don't normally like musicals, but theres somethng really special abou Moulin!

Now then Dog breath,

I can't let you get away with the above.  I'm sorry, but you will be hard pushed to find a serious film critic who would tell you that 'Moulin Rouge' is a good film, and it really pales into insignificance on so many levels next to 'Cabaret'.  One of the most respected Film Guides says

"Baz Luhrmann learned all the wrong lessons from dissident movie musicals like Cabaraet, filling dance sequences with fragmented shots of body parts without carrying the movement across the cuts..."

That isn't to start with the plot which would make the flintstones movie seam complex, the songs which are mediocre, and the level of suspense which would give the Simpsons a run for its money.

OK, I'm not a Liza Minelli fan, but she was mesmerising with show-stoppers like 'Mein Herr' and 'Tomorrow Belongs To Me', set against the backdrop of the Kit Kat club in Weimar Berlin.... you are trying to compare a cartoon with a film classic..

Talking of which, I'd  be intrigued to learn which in my 'Masterpiece' section you reckon is 'sh*te'?  That would be like saying the Beatles didn't know how to pen a tune!!

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I've read many critics that rate the film highly and anyway why should I care what a critic says when the topic is "Your Favourite Movie"? I'm not lying am I?

SD, I'm sorry but I don't think there is any hope for you.  I'm not going to defend the reputation of 11 classic movies on here; you can pick up the VFG or Time Out Film Guide for that.

The Searchers is good, I'll grant you, but that's much more down to John Ford than Wayne, who was a talentless, one dimensional hack.
