^ Isn't it scary that we have someone here who actually knows the difference between hip hop and rap Well, I sort of guessed the difference myself and voted hip hop, though my wife has some smooth r'n'b stuff. I like some old school rap like LL Cool J and Public Enemy. Actually I don't dismiss any genre really. Except progressive metal of course

Note ppl, it is least favorite, from a subjective view
not worst genre of all time as some people have portrayed it.
There are good artists of every genre, but it can still be your least favorite genre
I like John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline by Dylan, but generally I do not favor country
I too love 80s pop, I really like some of the better stuff, but how does that mean I can't say Mainstream Pop doesn't represent a general trend in music that I do not favor?
Hey, I might love every genre, I'd still have a least.

Tie between Country/ Metal With Screaming In It/ New-Rap/ Pop-Punk/ Crunk-Core/ and all the fusions of these genres.
How many genres of metal do there have to be?

^Heavy metal, Power Metal, Doom Metal, Speed Metal, Glam Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Black Metal, Folk Metal, Viking Metal, Progressive Metal, Industrial Metal, Symphonic Metal, Drone Metal, Groove Metal, Neo Classical Metal, Post Metal, Sludge Metal, Stoner Metal, Nu Metal, and Metalcore. Then of course there are subgenres below those and hybrids. I'm probably missing something too.

Pop. Even though it seems like most rap and hip hop falls under the label of pop as well. I really dislike rap and country, but I see it as somewhat of a difference in tastes, somewhat a lack of skill. Whereas pop music isn't a difference in taste, it just has absolutely nothing to offer that hasn't been done thousands of times.
That being said, if Christmas Music was an option....I'd be on that

First part of your sentence is reasonable. Anything after the period was just going too far

I'm not saying any names, but we do have someone here who makes hip hop, and from what I've heard is quite a good rapper Too bad I didn't record the one time he spontaneously rapped over my and my other friend's drums & keys improv, that was some impressive stuff.
I thought rap wasn't a genre but the vocal style used dominantly in hip hop.

AFAIK rap isn't even really a genre, you're right Pekka, I do believe it's the actual vocal style. I've always referred to the genre as hip hop, not rap

Uh, well tons of people refer to rap as if it were a genre, so in reality I guess that makes it so.

That makes sense, considering there have been rock bands with rap (which usually ends up being terrible anyway with the exception of Pain of Salvation, as far as I'm concerned). Rap and hip hop seem to be interchangeable in the mainstream, however.

Also, in addition to Gothic metal,
Funk metal (FFF, Mucky Pup, Extreme, Living Colour, Infectious Grooves)
Blackened Death Metal (Vesania, ABSU...)
Avant-garde metal
Post-metal
White metal (or Christian metal)
NWOBHM
Crust
Grindcore
Dark metal (not to be confused with Black metal)
Mathcore
Neo-classical metal

Anybody who voted rap is only judging it only by modern mainstream stuff. Check out Eric B. and Rakim or Wu-Tang Clan or hell, Run-DMC.

I voted other, because I loathe modern RnB. I just cannot understand how anybody can enjoy that music, and yet I have to hear it every day on the subway even though it is AGAINST THE LAW to have music playing without headphones on it.
