Because they are progressively minded and ditched the emo kids from the other band that were dragging them down

Tool and Mars Volta, they are both very unique and modern. Out of the others maybe Pain of Salvation has original enough sound, but I don't think they ever will gain such a popularity and appreciation than Tool and TMV already have.

I think Radionhead, at least Ok Computer already is though as classic, but perhaps not in prog circles.

I truly think prog era is dead. I'm not very interest about bands like The Flower Kings, Dream theater and others. Sure there are some great music, like for some of IQ, or TMV, or maybe some of Radiohead, but really, there aren't classic at all, and I think they nerver gonna be it.

Really, in thirthy years, do people will buy some Flower Kings cd and say: Wow, they played great music in the end of the century ! I don't think so! Maybe some are gonna be classic, like probably OK computer by radiohead. But people will buy again the real classic like Foxtrot, Thick as a brick, and all the others more than retropolis by the flower kings.....I think, but this is my point of view.

So, the 90's band that want to sounds (but weakest) like the 70's NOT gonna be classic !

That is a Yes

That is why they aren't winning the poll for me at least.

I think the Mars Volta is just not my cup of tea, never liked their choice of instrumentation and vocals. Same goes with Tool, because I think they are just horrendous.

Horrendously good, you mean?

Well, it depends from person to person. I've absolutely loathed from the day I first listened to them. Just not my cup of tea, to me one of the weaker Prog bands.

Ok, then.

I personally think none of these bands will achieve classic status, as much as I love all of them I don't think they're adventurous enough to reach these heights. Maybe it's to early to predict such things of a band that has only released two albums so far, but I think the France-based Taal have what it takes to achieve a classic status (even if only within a much smaller audience than that those other bands enjoy).

If Pain of Salvation is not very adventurous, then I'd have 99 percent of my body covered with nazi tattoos.

but mostly Very true, except for DT, that pretty much has already reached "semi-classic" status, especially with most Prog-Metallers and musicians.
