The Mars Volta

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”
"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

Echolyn!
This band is with the here not-mentioned band called IZZ my big hope
for modern prog. It isn't such a crap as a lot of the so-called "modern
progressive"-bands like Coldplay, System of a down or Muse who are
extremly superficial, minimalistic and without good musicianship.
Echolyn has enough style to rule the new prog-world (same thing with
IZZ). It is complex and full of new ideas (not like Coldplay, Muse or
System of a down where every song has the same sound). The singing is
great and every song surprises you with smart parts you would never
have expected.

I like alot of these bands but the main difference from
progs great days is that none of these have a great lead singer. The major
bands had Anderson,Gabriel,Hammill,Lake, and Fish.I like alot of the music

are the Flowers and IQ not on the list! and I have alot of time for Mostly
Autumn with the wonderful Heather on vocals.Riverside sound very, very
good and Arena should have a mention, their new album has some excellent
moments. |
Apparently you haven't heard the mars volta yet. The lead singer Cedric has
an incredible voice.

Mars Volta, best new prog band!!! am i seeing things, have you heard their last feeble effort! Dont go much on Porcupine Tree neither unless you want to be bored to death.
Oh well, let the kiddies have their say and lets get serious about this.
Try Little Atlas or Magic Pie, not 'cool'' but majestic!

Anglagard, maybe regressive, not 100% original, but this guys are all serious musicians and created beautiful music.

BTW: Not so new, we're talking about 13 years ago.
