A band has got to make a living, and I believe the way that they are doing it is releasing a single that they know there fans will go for. If this gets them to No 1 (not totally impossible qith the current lack of strength in single sales) then it could open the band up to new fans, and no band in the world would say no to that.

unlike genesis, marillion has now a marginal sound, pretty depressing.

in order to get a true  international pop recognition, marillion will have to produce happy songs like i can't dance, hold on my heart or invisible touch; this will only be possible if they change their singer.

It's simply not true that marillion should change their singer in order to get popular recognition, if you need evidence look at the success of "You're gone" in UK and NL. They need media-attention, that's all, for there have always been good single-tunes to play on the radio on their latest albums: Deserve, Rich, Between you and me, Map of the World...

How the hell can you tell me why I still like Marillion?  I was very tempted not to even bother with the Hogarth lineup back in 88 but why should I write something off I've never heard.  When I heard it, yes it was different but I liked it and still like most of what they do and not because I've "held out just because of the name".  There is still a signature feel, anyone who can't hear this don't really "get" Marillion, they just want to hear an analogue keyboard solo played at lightening speed and all the songs to be approaching 10 minutes.

Remember Marillion still remain four fifths of the lineup that recorded Fugazi in 1984.

Am I the only one who actually prefers Holidays In Eden to Brave. HiE still retained the sound from the previous 3 albums (particularly Rothery's guitar solos). I actually see Brave, although very good, as being the start of Marillion's dicline in the mid to late 90s as the instrmuentation had changed wildly from that of Misplaced Childhood, Clutching at Straws and Season's End. Sure Holidays has a few mediocre tracks on it but then so does it's predecessor (Hooks in You ).

Oh... Holidays in Eden isn't really as great as it COULD have been when you listen to the demos... "Brave" is far more the band the way they are whithout any commercial pressure for producing a "Hit single"... and Dave Meegan is a great producer for Marillion... Chris Neill worked better for ike and the Mechanics ( Beggar on a beach of gold, in particular )...

I became a real fan of this band because of the h-aera-stuff... before, I just thought "good stuff...

but it was too close to ol' Genesis, see, when I want ol' Genesis I'm putting on the original rather"...

I like it far better now because of what came after, really !
