I didn't say that Godspeed You! Black Emperor and many post-rock/metal bands are not progressive in the sense of "progression" or "innovation". I've just said that they are not influenced by 70's progressive rock bands like Genesis, Yes, ELP, KIng Crimson and so on; so for me, they don't belong this category.

And I will be back soon with some links and bands of post/alternative rock/metal and progressive black/death-metal bands I often listen to. Smile

To me getting two new favorite albums in favor of two previous ones, in a day or two is lightning fast. To state something like that would take years (if I actually have a favorite album). But we're all differnet and it's really none of my business.

Fair enough, those two albums just immediately struck me as masterpieces. I have already listened to them multiple times.

To add onto this, "In the court of the Crimson King" and "Journey to The Centre of the Eye" were only my favorites for lack of a better option.

Well I disagree with you. Which is fine. I think of new bands heavily influenced by the 1970's as less progressive (and obviously less innovative) than those who have found a new spin of progressing rock music - and challenging what it can mean - and be.

There has been a surprising number of disagreements on a recommendations thread

But I agree with you ! For example, for me, The Watch, Wobbler, The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard are less progressive in terms of innovation than many post/alternative rock/metal bands (Caspian, If These Trees Could Talk, ... ) and artists of progressive black/death-metal (Agalloch, Borknagar, Enslaved, ...). Wink

I think that this link written by Denis Vecchie (Passion Progressive / France) could help you (progressive rock/metal from the 60's to our century):

My monthly budget for vinyl has been 1 vinyl a month, but I haven't bought a vinyl in long enough to be able to buy four this month! I bought "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, "Until All The Ghosts Are Gone" and "From Within" by Anekdoten, and "Polygondwanaland" by King Gizzard And The Wizard Lizard.

I can't thank you guys enough for giving me all these good recommendations.

If you like the sound of Porcupine Tree, then you may like Porcupine Rain too, by my favourite band, Mostly Autumn.  Thumbs Up

From my collection of CDs, some "new" psychedelic / space-rock bands:

-Hidria Spacefolk (Finland),
-Moonwagon (Finland),
-Offworld (Belgium),
-Quantum Fantay (Belgium),
-Taipuva Luotisuora (Finland),
-Vespero (Russia),
-Weedpecker (Poland).

You can also listen to Ozric Tentacles and Kingston Wall, in the same style of progresssive rock. Wink

Thanks ! I've got the CD III. And I will try to buy their fourth album. Some kind of mix between stoner and space-rock. Smile

I listened to some of their songs and they were pretty good! I will definitely look at their albums sometime!

I listened to some songs by Hidria Spacefolk (specifically in the album "HDRSF-1") and they were pretty good. I have been busy today so I will definitely listen to more of them later.
I listened to some songs by Moonwagon and the same applies. I will listen to more of them later.
I couldn't find Offworld on Spotify. I looked online and couldn't find them.
I listened to Quantum Fantay and, like Hidria Spacefolk, it was pretty good and I will listen to more by them later.
I listened to Taipuva Luotisuora and I liked them. Will listen to more later.
I listened to Vespero and they were good as well. Will listen to more later.
I listened to Weedpecker and they were pretty good. Definitely the best thing you recommended in that reply! Thanks for the recommendations!

Does anyone here know songs that have vocals like the ones in Anekdoten songs? My favorite part of their songs are the vocals and I am curious if any of you know where I can find similar vocals.

Welcome to PA!!  You've come to the right place.

Visit this site every day, even several times a day.....it is like a university of prog!!  I considered myself a "master" of prog music, but constantly learn new things, hear of new music, and enjoy other's recommendations!

Prog is a lifelong pursuit.....the catalog is vast.  Have fun!

p.s. Genesis "Foxtrot,"  Yes "Close to the Edge" and ELP "Brain Salad Surgery!"
