Kadhja writes, sings, produces and plays all instruments herself (even on the songs where it sounds like a full band backed by a choir and an orchesthra)

Glad you like "Spaceway 70", I love it. It is my favourite off its album, which is jazzy and quite eclectic. I like such retro-stylings. It gives me a sense of euphoria. I very much enjoyed listening to Khadja's Procession from Childqueen. Wonderful.

Now listening to an old favouritie of mine, Haco of After Dinner's collaboration with Sakamoto Hiromichi, Ash in the Rainbow (2002) album. I love "Zero Hills".

One of my favorite lessor known power pop bands that never received the acclaim they deserved..imho.
Brilliant blend of so many great styles of pop rock.

^Agree. Jellyfish deserves more. I saw them play live and it was stunning. Bedspring Kiss was posted on the previous page.

The Bears - Dave. A well know prog legend appears on this song. Without looking it up, do you know who it is?

^ Well, isn't that normal? We are different individuals, and good connoisseurs in our own right. In the TV age, we might have been fooled that an artist/song is liked by virtually everybody. But the internet age showed how different we all are as individuals. Smile

^ I find it cool.

As for The Bears, I automatically thought Robert Fripp because he often adds to music projects and well, guitar is prominent, and I think he is the biggest name in prog. Seeing people sit down with guitars as in the image makes me think Fripp. I enjoyed the music.

Since Ozgur's post made me think about synthwave and the like, here is a favourite of mine:

Thanks your Com Truise is also cool. Some standout percussions/rhythms. Not the typical '80s kind.

Concerning the new millennium, this is one of my favourites:

"Data Kiss" is from Com Truise's (a play on Tom Cruise) 2012 album, In Decay. It certainly is evocative of the 80s. Synthwave is electronic music inspired by the 80s (80s music culture, fashion, film...). The person who added the film footage to the music chose scenes from the 1981 sci-fi film The Looker. I discovered this track (part of it anyway) due to a film trailer for High-Rise from 2015 (I love this film -- a lot don't). An official trailer featured it despite not being music used in the film. High-Rise is a very retro styled film, so interesting to use the retro stylings of Com Truise for the trailer. The High-Rise soundtrack does feature Can with "Outside My Door" from the Monster Movie soundtrack.

On to something different:

Julia Holter - "Lucette Stranded on the Island" from her 2015 album Have You in My Wilderness

And for another slice of Holter, here is the opening track from her 2018 album Aviary

Turn the Light On

Glad some of you enjoyed Kadhja Bonet! I heartily reccommend the whole Childqueen-album (plus the Childqueen outtakes EP - and her debut for that matter - all stunning). This is something else. An egyptian band from the early 1980's whose only cassette release was disovered - or stumble upon a few years ago, and gotten its re-release on Habibi Funk. Really one of a kind and wonderful:

-gotta say I've listened to plenty of great new stuff in this thread!

Apart from being distressing, this is excellent.
