Bill Bruford did very little as a solo artist; the albums "One of a Kind", "Feels Good to me" and "Gradually Going Tornado" are not solo albums but albums by a band named Bruford (in that regard similar to the band Santana)

I am not fully understanding, why Wilson is No. 1. I know he has done all kinds of stuff with music, but still... he over Gabriel, Zappa, Oldfield, Bush, Bowie, Wakeman & Hendrix? He´s the only one of those ten whose musical career has started in the late eighties. But I guess many old progheads like me are not very active here anymore.

I'm really surprised Steven Wilson is numero uno too, even though I'm a fan of Porcupine Tree. I would have expected Mike Oldfield to be in the top spot, mainly because I voted for him as my number one choice. It's hard to believe Steven Wilson is number one when David Gilmour is not even in the Top 10, but then again, I'm constantly surprised by the results of my lists and polls. Smile

I'm not surprised Steven Wilson is on the top since he is in most users' lists. Not hard to believe at all.
As for Mike Oldfield, he's a hit and miss with a lot of people, so again, I'm not surprised with the result.

As for Gilmour, we're judging here his solo albums, which again some are not very fond of. Again, no surprise he's not leading the list.

^ I love ALL of David Gilmour's solo albums and I have them all in my CD collection, including Live in Gdansk. Thumbs Up Heart

I've never heard any of Steven Wilson's solo albums, so it's no surprise that I'm surprised he's currently leading the poll, although not for long I suspect. Smile

I thought you were wondering why Gilmour was low in your list...

Why are you surprised by Steven Wilson leading your list since you don't know his music at all. LOL
That makes no sense. LOL

Well, if people honestly is in that opinion, that in Wilson´s solo albums is the greatest prog of alltime, greater than Zappa, Gabriel etc., of course there is really nothing I can say about it. I was just wonderin`. But have to say he isn´t at all in many lists in this thread, specially really many people who has been the longest here. But of course everybody´s opinion is as valuable.

About Gilmour I really agree, he´s solos are just so much lower quality as any Pink Floyd albums and so are all the other Floyd members too, to me Waters has done the best albums outside Floyd. But not rate even them very high.

Have to ask, don´t you wonder at all, if Porcupine Tree had won the all time top10 prog bands voting?

Well, it makes perfect sense in my prog universe, because the other nineteen solo artists in the Top 20 have been around far longer than Steven Wilson, regardless of not having heard any of his solo albums. Smile

^^ No, I'm not surprised at all that Porcupine Tree didn't win the recent Top 10 prog bands poll. In fact, I would have been VERY surprised if they HAD won the poll. Smile

As you´re a Porcupine Tree-fan, I believe you will like also Wilson´s solos. I don´t hear much difference in PT-albums and Wilson solos.

Well, I think I put my question unclear. I was asking about Cristi, wouldn´t he be surprised at all if PT had won that poll? People thinking PT is greater than Genesis, Yes, Floyd etc? Maybe it´s not totally same thing as in this poll, but to me it is.

What?
Why are you judging Steven Wilson when you know nothing of his solo music?
Maybe check out some of his music and try to understand his popularity? I know you will not do it, but anyway...

I don't think people are saying that Wilson's work is the greatest prog of all time, but since he is in most people's list, adding up the points, I guess he climbed up at the top of the list.

I enjoy Gilmour's solo albums, especially the first two.

BTW, I did not put Steven Wilson in my list. Big smile
