Or "laugh out loud." When I first noticed this initialism, which was in response to a post of mine in my early internet posting days, I assumed she meant "Lots of Love". It also stands for Lower Operating Limit, Lots of Llamas, Lunatics on Line, Leaning Over Laughing, Load of Lard, Lets Order Linguini, Lord of Lords, Lewd Obscene Language, Less of Lip, Lick Orange Lolipops and Lesbians of Love among many other things, but usually it stands for laughing/laugh out loud in Netspeak. |

@Logan:- That's funny, because when I first came across the "LOL" abbreviation on the Internet, I thought it meant "Lots of Love" too, although your alternative interpretations are even better, where the abbreviation can mean whatever you want it to mean. Lol

^ I actually can't take credit for any of those and should have cited my source: https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/LOL
My response to her perceived "Lots of Love" ended up being rather awkward. At least I didn't quote from Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" by way of response. |

Your mention of "Whole Lotta Love" reminds me that I'll have a Led Zeppelin song titles blog coming up soon.
It was also the long-running theme to Top of the Pops in Britain.

No no no, The Eagles are a top tier band, and YES I'm bringing this topic up from the dead.
Eagles never made a bad song (except for maybe Love Will Keep Us Alive, but even then, that was a minor hit). Are they dad rock? Yes I've got more Eagles albums than any other band (besides Yes, but even then, it's a tight race, and Yes put out WAY more albums) I cite Hotel California as one of my favorite albums (if not favorite) all the time. Tracks like 'Try and Love Again' and 'The Last Resort' are beautiful love songs. Not to mention the hits! The Eagles are so overrated they're underrated. Love 'em!

Personally i prefer the Hotel Rhode Island. It celebrates the state bird which is a chicken and has an avatar that features Mr Spock from Star Trek riding a giant rooster thus Spock on a Cock.

I remember learning Hotel California for a cover band. I had heard the song on the radio for years , but ignored it. The band asked me to learn it and after focusing on the song it sounded to me as if there were several guitar overdubs. I asked the other guitarist in the band to play a harmony lead with me and it started sounding pretty good..but it was definitely missing something.
We started performing the song and received standing ovations. I didn't realize the song was that popular. As a cover band we began getting a reputation for playing Hotel California and people began showing up to our gigs just to see if we could. Two female vocalists in our band covered the vocals such as trading off and harmonizing throughout the song. People in the bars began treating the situation like a religion. When we announced that we were going to play the song...they would gather around the stage and act as if we were Gods because we played an Eagles song. When we harmonized the guitar leads people screamed and roared. When we left the stage people followed us around telling us that we were Gods because we played that song so well. This got on my nerves and I began to hate playing the song. I wasn't too fond of it anyway. It was basically the same chord progression that Jethro Tull used for "We Used To Know" about 4 years earlier. Everyone in the bars acted fanatical about The Eagles. I started getting the impression that they worshipped The Eagles in the same way that people worship Christ. That's how they came across. They kept on asking questions about Hotel California and raving over the guitar solo at the end. I began saying..."Omg!! There are other guitar players ! Other bands!! "What is this?" "What is it suppose to mean?" I grew hateful of the song and how it was overrated. It was all such a lie to me. The mentality was too fanatical and it was overblown. It didn't have anything to do with honest appreciation for music. The way in which those people reacted is not truly what music is all about. It's not about one band...one path... So I just packed up my bags and left ....because it was a phony situation for me. |

Never owned an Eagles album (I do however have Joe Walsh's album with Life's Been Good on it). Quite funny to read some of the vitriol on the thread towards them. In the USA they outsold Pink Floyd for a while ( that takes some doing) but back in the UK they are just another 70's band with some great tunes. I don't listen to radio much but I am fond of Hotel California and Life In The Fast Lane on the very rare occasions they crop up. Beyond that I have zero interest.

I Can't Tell You Why, but it's taken me over four years to finally Do Something about posting the Eagles' full discography here, although I've been busy with one or two other blogs, so it hasn't all been Wasted Time. It was tempting to Take It Easy by just including the Eagles' albums here, but I've Already Gone and listened to all of their albums many times over anyway, so I thought One of These Nights, why not Take It to the Limit by listing all of the individual Eagles' members solo albums too, and lining them up below just like Pretty Maids All in a Row. I may even get around to listening to all of Joe Walsh's many albums too in The Long Run, but that would be The Last Resort.

It just so happens that I'm Taking It Easy right now listening to Live at the Forum 2018 and One of These Nights (but most likely tonight) I'll be watching the Eagles get back together again on their comeback DVD, when Hell Freezes Over, so it hasn't all been Wasted Time today. |

GLENN FREY (1948-2016) The chief co-writer - alongside Don Henley - of most of the Eagles classic songs, Glenn Frey also wrote many classic songs during his solo career too which often featured in TV shows and movies, most notably:- "The Heat is On" (Beverley Hills Cop); and "Part of Me, Part of You" (Thelma & Louise); "Smuggler's Blues" & "You Belong to the City" (Miami Vice). Glenn Frey also made a cameo guest appearance in Miami Vice (in the Smuggler's Blues episode below), although thankfully, he didn't get shot by Crockett & Tubbs. 1982: Glenn Frey - No Fun Aloud - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_khGsRR2kx2YQ5h2RFXWNYwIneDFQ87xKY 1984: Glenn Frey - The Allnighter - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ndHX5gWXWNqq_7dP2563G7_DbCCP63OVY 1988: Glenn Frey - Soul Searchin' - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLm39F6t-nFmstGictH6S8_xU-vSGdPLBP 1992: Glenn Frey - Strange Weather - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kDv1DzXWvKiCtAqqJtbJslsOTQ4RRTrBI 2012: Glenn Frey - After Hours - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHjXo7hEN6G8RzUcwdx_wv9nQianPkdOE |

Big fan of the band. Hotel California is the best album, obviously, but OOTN and Desperado rank pretty high too.
Regarding The Long Run I do think it's disappointing because it's sounds too AORish and soft-rockish at times, and it has some of their weakest tunes like The Greeks Don't Want no Freaks and Heartache Tonight, but it also has some pretty good highlights like I Can't Tell You Why and King of Hollywood.

The Magnificent Seven
DON HENLEY One of the wealthiest drummers in the world with an estimated worth of $200 million, Don Henley is the driving force behind the Eagles success story and the only continuous member of the band over the last fifty years. He co-wrote (with Glenn Frey) most of the Eagles classic songs, leading them to become the best-selling American band in U.S history. The Eagles broke up in 1980 (although in The Long Run, the Eagles never really break up, they just take extended vacations), which marked the beginning of Don Henley's impressive solo career with a seemingly endless string of classic hits, including, "The Boys of Summer", "In a New York Minute", "Sunset Grill", "Dirty Laundry", "All She Wants to Do is Dance"..... I could go on, so I will..... "The Last Worthless Evening", "Not Enough Love in the World", "The End of the Innocence", "The Heart of the Matter" and many more. Okay, that's enough waffle from me and so it's on with the music. 1982: Don Henley - I Can't Stand Still - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lrnpAiiV3mFIEEB2AoHifnQQIGwFa39Js 1984: Don Henley - Building the Perfect Beast - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFzlkUkv75oh8q6nt3okZ7ni3vbuJXEkn 1989: Don Henley - The End of the Innocence 2000: Don Henley - Inside Job - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_la81aRqwoyAVqOZF6Mfi5uYKWCcMFEv1o 2015: Don Henley - Cass County - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLl-0U0uuf1Z6Mwm6isDdncF7IuAcpj1xv My Top 5 Don Henley Songs The Boys of Summer - from the album, Building the Perfect Beast (1984) The End of the Innocence (with Bruce Hornsby) - from the album, The End of the Innocence (1989) New York Minute - from the album, The End of the Innocence (1989). The Eagles Interview - 60 Minutes Australia (condensed to 20 minutes). The story of how living Life in the Fast Lane eventually caught up with the Eagles in The Long Run. At The Last Resort, the Eagles broke up in 1980 when the band were fast becoming an albatross around their necks, but as they soon discovered, they can check out any time they like, but they can never leave the Eagles.
