^^ Saw Troy live with IONA, back in 2000 on their 'Open Sky' tour... incredibly good performance...

I know you'll hate me for saying this, but AYREON have always been one of those problem bands for me... can't explain why very easily, but I've never really enjoyed their music..
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I don't know if you liked it, but this is hardly progressive in Orphaned Land's standards. It's a very big change from everything preceding it. It's like listening to 90125 and thinking you've heard Yes. I advise going for "The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR" if you're still interested (also on spotify).

Yup. It was quite a switch! I think I only ended up loving tracks, BROTHER and ALL IS ONE (the opener.)
Think they gotta return to heavier tendencies with more, rough vocals like on Mabool.
I remember we spoke about this past summer. :) 3/5 at best!
It's not terrible, but its just not even close to their best.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Many many, even here on PA , feel the same way. I think people may perceive his music to be a tad 'formulaic.'
Maybe a bit tedious at times. My feeling with Ayreon is that he doesn't change up his theme or structure when creating an album, but their is no denying that the production in his albums are quality.
The Human Equation and his latest effort are standout achievements to me, but Luccassen has still yet to deliver that 5 star masterpiece for me, although his latest came close! :)

May I second that! Any man who has rated 226 Prog metal albums I'm sure to get along with a person as such.

The Human Equation was that for me.  The new one is great, but I still need to give it a good listen with the lyrics book open in front of me to get the full effect of the story that he is telling.

And that is the right approach. His scope and atmosphere are grand, so you gotta sit with it.
I like the lyrical writing style and approach on 'The Theory Of Everything.' Notice how their is a lot less rhyming and it's a more straight narrative approach. It's far more challenging to do. Actually I'm gonna say right now, that I think A theory of Everything is his best album, but the Human Equation has the best character with Eric Clayton as The voice of Reason.
Just amazing power and delivery. Pure gothic magic! Lol

I know both Ayreon and that album in particular are very well thought of here Scott, and I won't knock it... I can't exp[lain to anyone really why Vanden Plas: Christ.0 makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck every time I hear it.. even all these years on. It's aesthetically a very personal thing where ultimately, no-one is wrong!

You're very kind, but I've just listened to a lot Nick, doesn't make me knowledgeable..

Sitting with the booklet in your lap is also the only way to digest a Rhapsody of Fire album...

Haha, well got it what you wish but it proves you at least have a broad scope of knowing what is out there and you could pick out certain styles/similarities that some bands have.
I read your bio. You are no dummy. ;)

Like the album in my avatar and the 2nd Pagan's Mind album, Christ.0 is magnificent from beginning to end... but Christ.0 comes with added goosebumps...
