Amy Denio may just have the best voice I've ever heard.
Plus she plays amazing sax and accordion.

Naming one vocalist as the best I've ever heard would prove to be impossible.
|
I meant best female... I forgot to add that part.
Hammill wins easily, obviously.
Denio maybe pushing second.
|
Best female? Easy! Dagmar Krause.
Best male though? That's tough.
|
Nah. Denio > Krause Plus she plays amazing sax and accordion. She pwns.

Ah, I'm not n00by enough to play Halo. Never have played it.

Not really a DT fanboy.. I'm only listening to them because the guitarist in the band I'm in listens to them. I prefer Vanden Plas over DT anyday. And I would recommend not playing halo. It takes over your soul.

James Labrie > Peter Hammill
Easily. |
No, Labrie sounds like a girl and isn't very good. Way overrated.
|
Replace Labrie with Hammill and that's how I feel.
|
I can understand what Hammill sings. Labrie I cannot. He cannot annunciate! Plus he sounds like a girl and doesn't compose his own songs. Hammill infinity better. Hammill sings amazingly well. Hammill composes brilliantly. Hammill plays keyboard/piano. Hammill plays guitar. Labrie sounds like a strangled cat. Labrie cannot annunciate properly. The band that plays with him are pretentious. Labrie does not play any instruments and doesn't compose (and if he does, they're rubbish).

It all comes down to opinion here. I despise Hammill's voice, and his composing skills don't strike me as noteworthy either. Whereas Labrie has played some of the most emotional, accomplished music I've ever heard, especially in the scene of metal---and he has pinned some great lyrics and is a good frontman. On Images and Words, I will agree he does not annunciate very well, but I believe his skills in that department grew better with each album.

Sometimes Labrie's voice annoys me, like one the Live Scenes in New York live album, where you can tell he's straining, and on Live At Budokan, you can hear him straining occasionally, but to be fair his vocal cords ruptured in the 90s, and only totally recovered from it only a few years ago.

That doesn't even make sense... Played? He sings dude. Pinned? I think you mean penned. And no, you don't despise his voice, you f**ktard. Oh and you've haven't heard Amy Denio, so you cannot comment about her yet. She's better than Krause. Easily.

I also don't think James Labrie wrote most of the lyrics for dream theater. Isn't that Portnoy and Petrucci ?

A voice is an instrument, is it not? Why nitpick my wording? Just substitute "sung" then. It doesn't matter. Yes, penned, I made a typo. Again, irrelevant to anything on disproving my points. It's all subjectivity here. And yes, I do despise Hammill's voice. Sometimes it makes me cringe.

To be honest, from what I have heard of Dagmar Krause, I would have to go with Britney Spears for the female singer with the better voice.

Labrie always makes me cringe. Hammill rarely makes me cringe. I love Krause's voice but Denio is superior in every way. Plus she's Henry Cow related.

He hasn't written most, but he has written some; you are correct. "Blind Faith" is one of the ones he has written.
