I came pretty close to having a heart attack but I was treated professionally. I followed orders and didn't have a scratch on me after it was over.

I don't see what's delusional about it. Lots of cops do bad things and don't get reprimanded for it. I don't like those cops. Even the good cops enforce immoral laws, so I don't like them so much either.

Pat I'm not gonna start with you my friend. I understand how you feel, you've made it plain many times, as has MoM. I respect that. I just have a different experience and opinion.

It's an error to think that more cops=less crime. If that would be the case, the US would be the safest country in the world.
The presence of these Rambo-like armored bulldozers that are cops everywhere doesn't really convey the idea of the safest of societies. There's too many stupid policies (like the drug war) that are what makes the US so full of crime in some areas and even though I welcome some cops to enforce protection of life and property, as Pat said, they are also there to enforce incredibly stupid laws. It would be great if society could be made safer not by adding more cops but by changing a few things that are common sense. |

And by the way when I said that I feel the US is the "policest" of police states I really wanted to mean that the presence of "Big Brother" is certainly quite strong here, probably the strongest out of all western civilized nations I know (obviously, I don't know them all).

I'm just merely suggesting the one thing that the country should never do.

Cops are a subset of humanity, nothing more, nothing less.
This means there will be evil cops, just as there will be evil teachers, evil priests, and evil architects (Slart? ). Evil gets the press 95% of the time, so that's what we hear about, and then we make judgments on the whole group based on that very slim minority. I happen to like and appreciate Hoke County's cops. I know a few of them because they help out at our school. |

Cato has a site devoted to reporting incidents of police misconduct. Seems like a helpful tool. Anyway, here's a link to their 2009&2010 map: http://www.policemisconduct.net/maps/searchable-map-2009-2010-misconduct-incidents/

I have a different opinion than most physicists on the spacial implications of general relativity. I refrain from calling them delusional though. |

I have to disagree. You can't say that serial killers are a subset of humanity (in the sense you're saying it). There's something inherently evil in following what is dictated by the job. Now of course, some cops don't do what they're supposed to do. I like those guys. I'm not going to judge anyone based on what job they have. I don't see a cop walking down the street and dislike him. If I need to make a judgement of the majority of the profession though, it will be negative. I'll throw one thing out there. People who grow up in rural areas tend seem to like their cops. People who grow up in the inner city seem to be fearful of their cops. Their roles and involvement differ between these two areas I thinks. |

I said "some" of what I've read is delusional. I didn't say Pat was delusional.

I actually tend to be wary of cops from the start, just as they put on the uniform and their Batman-like belt full of toys. Yes, there are some very good ones of course but the very fact that a person would choose as their profession one where they can use brute force to control other people gives me doubts. The romantic idea of policemen choosing their job because they want to serve the community is probably not the motivation in a big percentage of cases.

Your words were that powerful. I would love to visit MN, but a tour of the local police HQs probably won't be on my agenda. |

Life safety is one of our primary responsibilities then on the other hand you have those that made the drawings for the death chambers of Nazi Germany. |

I know it's just a joke, but they're all rich as hell anyway. And they make more of their money from kickbacks and bribes than their official salaries. |
