Yes, Italian. He gave an award named after him to someone who did never receive another award.

Yes, an artist.
Though not a singer, he recorded two songs. These were release by another record company after his death.

Rudolph Valentino! And for once it wasn’t googling that helped me. EDIT: And the Genesis cover was probably a triple hint: From Genesis to Revelation, Mussolini and Doris Duke.

Well done again! But I think I have to explain some hints: Duke hinted at the Duke of Chartres from the film Monsieur Beaucaire and Doris Duke. I thought of the Duce as well. Revelation 6 is the chapter in the Bible in which the Four Horsemen appear. I had to be careful to choose the hints since most of the ones I first thought of had Valentino on page 1 of Wiki search results.

The four horsemen was the first hint I found when I opened the Wiki article. The Duke hint worked nicely on a number of levels, but what made me sure I had the right man was Valentino’s syndrome.
I have a new one in mind, but I haven’t written down any hints yet. I’ll be away most of the day, so I don’t think I will have the time until tomorrow.

Did she die before 1923 (still left unanswered, probably because it was posted when you were editing your post)? European?

Sorry, I didn’t see it. No, not before 1923 and not European.
