You always insist on the album.

"Jean Louis.

I hope it's released in 2009, this Jean Louis, because it's the album of the year.

Jean Louis, album of the year!

It would be a shame, not to mark Jean Louis as album of the year.

I think Pat, Luke and David would also like Jean Louis to be 2009.

Jean Louis, please be 2009.

Jean Louis surely recorded Jean Louis in 2008, and released it one year later, that's why it says on the back cover of Jean Louis 2008.

Luke, are you sure it says that Jean Louis is recorded in 2008?

It can't be. It just can't be. I'm sure Jean Louis isn't 2008. Jean Louis is 2009 for sure, I'm sure.

And then Jean Louis will be album of the year.

Mmmmmmm Jean Louis."

For me it's a 2009 album even if it was released last year. Wink

Although in the official P.A. poll, I'll have to choose something else.

I won't take it in account, at the end of the year's Collabs Top, if it's 2008 and you vote it for 2009. Wink

That too.

Right, it seems that it is 2008.

It seems it may have even been released as far back as May or June 2008. Shocked

Fine, it seems Fear Draws Misfortune may get the nod then, if I like it.

At the moment, Hammill is my 2009 pick.

James, I will lend you 2009 music, to see if Hammill still stands. Wink

I don't need to accept the offer.

I know at least 2 albums that will likely over take it.

And yes, Thin Air is better than Part the Second.

If Birds & Buildings release their new album this year, and it's as good as Bantam....Heart

I'm also excited about Black Bonzo; they're definitely releasing a new album this year. Their previous two are very good.

Turning slow?

Is it because this Jaco album is so great?

I'm currently listening to Les Claypool and The Holy Mackerel's High Ball With The Devil.  There is some killer bass playing on here.  IMO he is definitely the modern day cross bearer for awesome bass playing.

That last sentence is QFT.

I need some Claypool stuff besides Primus.

Even though Jean Louis maybe 2008, it's still my pick for 2009, 'cause that's when most people discovered it.

I cannot be expected to put it on a 2008 best-of list when I didn't even know it existed until this month.  Very few did know.

But it's still my album of 2008 as well.  Polar Bear's self-titled will be the best non-prog and jazz album of 2008 too.

Bantam and Behemoth gets the best prog/avant-prog album of 2008 award.

I believe that you can download the track Mr. Oysterhead here on their website.  http://www.oysterhead.com/  This was an awesome album with Les Claypool, Stewart Copeland (Police) and Trey Anastasio (Phish).

Your statement fails the test of generalization. I didn't knew prog existed until 2003. Am I not to treat every album according to when it was made?

Sure, you're gonna say you meant something else, and I exagerrated a bit intentionally, but my point is: an album's release remains solid. When someone gets to listen to it doesn't change facts.

Jean Louis totally, unconditionally deserves to be in a 2008 best-of-list, if it's a 2008 album.

I agree.

I'm referring to the P.A. 2008 list though.  I was aware of prog and jazz and all sorts last year.  If an album happened to be released before I was born or before I knew what prog was, then that's different.

However, I will also claim it is a 2008 best of album.

But listening wise, it's my 2009 pick (which is different to my best of 2009 albums that were released this year).  That doesn't matter about release date or year.  It's an album I discovered this year.

Yes.

Two different lists.

One for albums I discovered this year (which can include albums from this year, as well as any year -- but usually in my case, will include albums of the past 2 years)
One for albums released this year only
