So does Harry like Audioslave?
Seeing as Chris Cornell was in Soundgarden.

Cream's lyrics are also not unfathomable. Dude, chill.

I think most Soundgarden fans hate Audioslave. As do most RaTM fans, probably.

So you disagree that Rush are a trio and have a bassist who sings and that they also happen to have a great guitarist?

I like all three. But not that much. I mean I'll dance to RaTM's Killing in the Name Of or Bullet in the Head or whatever but I'll also dance to Soundgarden and Audioslave.

No, I meant I disagree with everything that was subjective.

Duane Allman kicks arse on their album. He outshines even Clapton. An amazing album.
Key to the Highway is awesome.

Can't disagree with you there. I'd take Layla over all my Cream albums (not including my Live Royal Albert DVD). I find it more consistent in quality than the others. The last some isn't as great, but that's the only slightly weak point, and in some moods I really like even that one. Just the vocals on Layla totally beat Jack's too, no contest there.

I haven't listened to "classic rock" in a zillion years.

Indeed. Quite so. And without Allman that album would never have been as wonderful. But then I am an Allman Brothers Band fan... ooh, I must play them again soon. Even their current line-up is fantastic.

So you don't think they're equally skilled? You also think Lifeson is a better guitarist than Clapton?

I don't know much of the Allmans. Someone recommended me a compilations about a year ago, and I never really got into it. Looove all the Skynyrd I got though.

Yes they play different music and in different styles but talent wise they're similar. Cream are maybe less complex but I wouldn't say they are simple.
|
Dude, that's hilarious.
Rush are on a completely different playing field. How can you even compare the two bands when they hardly have anything in common except roots?
|
Easily.
I'm not talking about musically.
I'm talking about the performers.
Peart vs. Baker Lee vs. Bruce Lifeson vs. Clapton
They're all equal in terms of skill and complexity. I bet Lifeson could play a Clapton solo and vice-versa. I bet Baker could play similar to Peart.
Both are trios. Both have the bass player as a vocalist. Both have great guitarists. Both have weird and unfathomable lyrics.
They are similar and I believe technically they're about the same. Cream just came earlier. If Cream had lasted, they could have made more complex, Rush-like music.
Besides, you like Kansas.
|
Clapton couldn't touch Lifeson's abilities. I know this speaking from a guitarists perspective having studied both their styles. Clapton doesn't even understand modes, but I bet Lifeson can through 'em all, much faster and cleaner too. Plus Clapton doesn't ever incorporate his pinky into lead playing, he came from that 60s school of blues rock playing where they 'didn't need it', whereas in order to play Lifeson solos, you need to use your pinky and use bigger stretches. Lifeson is not more technically accomplished subjectively......he is, by fact, a more technically proficient guitarist.

Yeah, I tend to get obsessed over things in the begining, including new music forums. Most likely I won't post as much in a couple of weeks.

I don't love Audioslave, but don't hate 'em. I love Rage Against The Machine, and always have, and don't care if I get bashed for saying this on a progrock site.
