A fair amount of their legacy is only tangentially related to music if you look at it overall.

So I'm guessing here I can safely say that I think the Kinks were actually better than the Beatles? Tongue

I don't really like either one, but I agree with you that they're better.

Cry What next? Don't tell me you don't like Cream either?

No, I don't like Cream. The simplest I get in terms of music is something like Boston's debut or ELO, and I don't listen to either much anymore.

Ian Anderson. Wink

Although he looks like Cyggie there.

I like Disraeli Gears, bought that album a few years back.
But if it must be known, I'm more of a modern music fan really.

I've accustomed myself to prog so much that I hardly find interest in anything that doesn't reach the same levels of complexity. It's really perfect for me anyway, since I can't stand anything that is simple generally (it's in my personality---I tend to overcomplicate anything when I do make mistakes).

I wasn't here an hour and a half ago.

Besides, I knew it was him, 'cause an online lady friend of mine once posted me the photo on my MySpace page.

Cream are not simple.

They're not complicated though.

But I'd like to see you play like Clapton even if he is overrated.  Oh and Jack Bruce is a wonderful bassist.  Ginger Baker is a wonderful drummer.

I have Disraeli Gears and it's a great album... except Mother's Lament, which isn't my thing.

Listen to Neil Young and get back to me.

I can understand that. But for me, it can go either directions (hey, I play for both teams Wink). Usually, I can't stand middle of the road though.

It doesn't matter whether it's simple or not; I simply don't care much for that stuff.

I don't know how you can differentiate the complexity of Rush and Cream.

Yes they play different music and in different styles but talent wise they're similar.  Cream are maybe less complex but I wouldn't say they are simple.

CocoRosie?

I tend not to listen to stuff before the 80s really and I'm the sort of guy that always looks forward to upcoming releases and don't really have that "OH MAN THE PAST WAS BETTER" attitude.

Besides, Derek and the Dominoes are better than Cream.

Duane Allman kicks arse on their album.  He outshines even Clapton.  An amazing album.

Key to the Highway is awesome.

I guess it just depends. It's all simply my taste, really.

For example, I'm listening to IQ right now. I absolutely love this album (The Seventh House) and it's probably my favorite neo-prog album. It's not the most complex prog, but it's definitely not run-of-the-mill rock either. It's the intriguing, unique, intellectual elements that suck me in, I suppose.

Hardly ever do I just listen to music with the intent of not completely immersing myself in it. After 4 years of developing my tastes well into prog now, I guess some music just doesn't cut it for me.

LOL

Dude, that's hilarious. LOL

Rush are on a completely different playing field. How can you even compare the two bands when they hardly have anything in common except roots?

I'd said Cream are sonically more interesting than most neo-prog.

You gotta look up CocoRosie if you like new stuff. Delightfully weird. Used to be even weirder.

A decent amount, maybe.

Listen to the Seventh House and then tell me that though.

Easily.

I'm not talking about musically.

I'm talking about the performers.

Peart vs. Baker
Lee vs. Bruce
Lifeson vs. Clapton

They're all equal in terms of skill and complexity.  I bet Lifeson could play a Clapton solo and vice-versa.  I bet Baker could play similar to Peart.

Both are trios.
Both have the bass player as a vocalist.
Both have great guitarists.
Both have weird and unfathomable lyrics.

They are similar and I believe technically they're about the same.  Cream just came earlier.  If Cream had lasted, they could have made more complex, Rush-like music. Big smile

Besides, you like Kansas. LOL
