Anyone else here find themselves coming back to the "second" trilogy of Black Sabbath's classic albums with Ozzy (i. e. Vol 4, SBS and this) more often than the first three? Most of the hits people are familiar with come from Paranoid and Master of Reality, but it's on those next three I find the group's songwriting get most interesting.

I played Vol 4 the other day (first time in a long while...)....I found it a bit boring. I'll revisit the others .

Vol. 4 I find even more ahead-of-its time than the others, precisely because the mellow psychedelic parts are sandwiched in the short "breather" tracks and it's all heavy powerdriving riffs building up and transitioning between each other in song structures that feel hammer-and-anvil put together.

As you can guess, the entire best-of-both-worlds window in time where progressive rock's harder end was in the process of turning into heavy metal as we know it is one of my favourite niches in rock history. These guys are one group in that style, called "concrete rock" by the Danish press before the "heavy metal" label stuck, I've been meaning to actively investigate for a while.

Reminds me quite a bit of a German Deep Purple circa In Rock, perhaps with touches of Look At Yourself-era Uriah Heep, though with way more stereotypical Krautrock eccentricity in there.

I actually wonder if Kadavar have taken influence from Lucifer's Friend and for that matter Night Sun, what with them being a German band who are a reconstruction of early-1970s psychedelic hard rock. They're neither as heavy nor as progressive as those two groups, but I do get a similar vibe...
