Now for something way heavier...

YOB - Clearing the Path to Ascend

An extremely difficult band, especially on this album, but I appreciate them for being one of those psychedelic doom metal band who while continuing the lineage of 1960s/1970s psych never feel like an exercise in nostalgia. The trick, I think, is that they manage to integrate a lot of newer influences also from the more extreme metal subgenres into lengthy songs that feel like challenging journeys into somewhere truly esoteric. Not easy to listen to, but at the end of a record's listen you always feel somewhat spiritually changed and that's what the best psychedelic music is meant to do, isn't it?
