Hooray for James calling AC "dance music with repetitive rhythms". I think James was lying when he had heard one of their songs, because for christ sake, they are not even dance music. Also, something about prog fans being as bad as mainstream music fans. Am I the only person that thinks it's embarrassing to say "prog fan" or to call myself a prog fan?

That was Taylor Swift. Yeah her music is for tweens but she still is hot. And that was a pic of when she was on CSI recently.

I'm not being defensive of Animal Collective. If someone dislikes them, I personally don't give a f**k. I don't like when people blindly say hateful things about a band unprovoked (it's okay if someone asks for your opinion, not so much otherwise), classify them as something they clearly are not with a negative connotation, or thinks that their opinions are truths. Closed-mindedness and stupidity have more in common than most people expect. If you want to specialize in an obscure type of music that only 3 other people that you know on the internet like, that's fine. It's not okay to make fun of virtually everything that doesn't fall within that specialization.
Lately I've discovered that a lot of prog fans here are just as bad as mainstream music fans. Not everyone. Not the majority. But quite a lot.... Discovering that in addition to discovering new types of music has moved me away from considering myself a "progger" and in turn, this website. If people opened their minds more, or at least shut their mouths (/fingers), this website would be much more enjoyable for everyone.

Wow Mike! That's just great. I was writing the same post and then I realised that you already did it.
Word for word.

I'm not sure who you're talking about specifically, but I don't think people are always being entirely serious. I don't identify as a prog fan either, but I don't listen to classic prog much anymore so that makes sense.

I would tap Taylor Swift so hard it's not funny. Good lord her music is terrible, but geezus, she's hot. And yeah, I don't really listen to 'teh classizc' prog anymore either.

I would rather say it's embarrassing and highly pretentious to flaunt one's open mindedness as if it really matters. Kepp that in mind, pl0x.

I think of myself as a "prog fan", but not in the traditional sense (I really can't listen to most of the classical stuff anymore either). And most of the time, I'm just someone who really likes music in general and happens to like a lot of prog bands. Other than country and rap (not hip-hop though), I've found music I like in most any genre I've explored.

Never did I say I was 'open minded' anywhere. How the f**k did you get that out of my post? I hate country music, I hate techno, I hate most pop music. I'm not exactly one of those who preach 'be open minded to everything' kinda people dude.

I inferred. If I was wrong then sorry. Mainly the last 2 sentences made me think of proggy closemindedness and elitism, which I can agree with in a lot of way. It could never, ever, ever be as bad as hipster elitism, though.

At least prog has some sort of justification, even if it's overhyped for mainstream prog, but in my view indie is almost a distinction without a difference most of the time because of the strict adherence to repetition and pop structures. They want it a little weird so that it doesn't sound like normal rock, but get a little too weird and it's too inaccessible. f**king Pitchfork.

I don't know, I'm shouting into empty space.
Ok I am going to bed now I have work far too early. I kind of wish I hadn't played Wesnoth until this point and gone to bed 2 hours ago...

PINK FLOYD>RUSH
I saw Rush CDs at the used CD store, and I didn't buy them just to spite you. You know, a long time ago I borrowed Counterparts from the library. Bad idea!

True. I mean I love MPP, but in my opinion it's quite a bit different than their previous albums.
