Looking at the liner notes to the version I'm currently listening to, id est the 2003 re-release on Castle/Sanctuary Records, it appears that the European and American versions of most early UH albums had completely different tracklistings and cover art. Can anyone explain that?

If Salisbury might be Uriah Heep's most progressive album, this is the one that feels the most like a scruffier and uglier cousin of Deep Purple... perhaps because it's generally faster more aggressive and technically accomplished. Also gotta love the mirror effect on the cover art... how 1970s is that?

I was thinking the same thing about The Magician's Birthday this week, about how much it reminded me of Deep Purple; but yet I was thinking a bit more along the lines of Ritchie Blackmore's other band, Rainbow.

Some vinyl selections whilst I continue the work on cataloging my collection:

First, side one of:

JETHRO TULL - "Songs From the Wood"

And now, side two of

STEELY DAN - "Aja" (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab audiophile pressing)
