Indeed. It's just I do not know enough, I just read stuff. I should really take a course on linguistics. I want to learn Latin too.

Derived from French or not, I still think it looks wrong to the eye when combined with the way you say it. Plus, it makes me unique to spell like an American as someone living in Australia:P

There's no pride in spelling like an American, Harry.

Those pesky Normans invaded us and the gullible English used their language rather than Latin and before that, Old Norse, Pictish, Anglo-Saxon and Celtic.

Hmm, maybe I should look more into that then. Haven't read up on my medieval history in recent times.

Oh and in your case, Harry, Welsh (which is based on Celtic).

Take care Bern.
Hmm, can't say I'm a specialist in linguistics or etymology (obviously:P). James, did you mean my first name is of Celtic origin?

Remember that Life Of Brian bit where Brian gets his ear pulled by Cleese for not spelling properly?
Not ready for Latin though. I tried German in University, and that was my Waterloo. I used to do pretty well in my Spanish classes, in my Italian classes too (although that didn't last long), and I do speak three languages, but German, omg, all those cases? WTF??! Latin seems even worse.
I think the classes I did best in University were actually History Of The English language (what fun, I swear!) and Intro to Ling. I seriously considered taking the Ling. program, but the job placement... what placement?

No, Hughes. It's Welsh and French. Hugo/Hugues Harold/Harry is actually Scandinavian in origin. Harald Hardrada was Norse. Harold Godwinsson was the son of Godwin and was the last Anglo-Saxon King of England... however, his ancestry was also Scandinavian.

Yeah, it's awesome. I usually lean more toward The Holy Grail though.
Did spend like 2 hours this summer watching Life of Brian almost frame by frame to try and find Waldo (George Harrison)...

Wow, I didn't actually know Harry was a Scandinavian name in origin, but you told me before Hughes was Welsh-ish/ French Normandy kinda thing.

The Holy Grail=even more amazing than Life Of Brian. Would go so far to say: The Holy Grail=one of the funniest movies in existence.

Can someone tell me how Sex can be on fire? Kings of Leon seem to think it's possible. Harry: Harold is an Old English name, meaning "army leader", same as the title herald. A diminutive of Harold is Harry. Well it's more Scandinavian in origin, rather than Old English as such.

Harald is still pretty common in Scandinavia.
Hughes (wait, what I am supposed to call you again?), I do hope you saw the Lego clips of the Holy Grail?

Probably not. We'd have been invaded by someone else.
