![]() No predictions for today, but the potential is there for Italy-Czech; USA-Ghana; & Aus-Croatia all to be tremendously tense games............really, the first set of final group games to look forward to......

I just read the bad news about Michael Owen his knee injury, at least six months of recovery, what a disaster for that young man
![]() The forthcoming days lots of interesting matches in the final first round:
* Czech have to beat Italy and when they do and Ghana wins, Italy can go home!
* Australia needs a draw against Croatia to go through so we can expect a
tough approach by Croatia!
* France have to win with at least two goals from Togo to have a chance because if
Switzerland and South-Korea draw, the goal difference becomes very important!
* Ukraine needs a draw against Tunesia so we can expect an inspired Tunesia to
battle for their last chance to go to the next round!
I hope 'Sir Gus' his Australia will reach the next round, if their usual luck until now continues this will happen

Indeed it will be, but I think they highly deserve it. IMHO Italy should have withdrawn from the Cup, as I already said. I'm not going to watch the game, because I've lost all interest in what used to be a great sport, but isn't any more. ![]() |

I'd like to nominate Polak, of the Czech Republic, for the most stoooopid sending off so far........in injury time.......well in the Italian half......Totti facing his own goal.......going nowhere.......Czechs needing to regroup at half time & score 2 goals at least........what does he do ? Thwack! Still, what do you expect from a guy who copies his fashion tips from Sigue Sigue Sputnik............

Well I got one wrong-congrats to the Italians for bouncing the Czechs!
Ghana's penalty against the USA was an appalling decision but I am glad to see the Africans qualify for the next phase. Presumably its Brazil next and I doubt the Brazilians will relish the thought of playing such a powerful and physical group of athletes. Edited by Tony R - June 22 2006 at 14:27 |

That Japan goal was nicely set up. Brazil keeps getting opportunities but they are continually coming up short.

That referee was so obviously wrong that he should be fired.
Also, there were some serious offences against Ghana earlier today that didn't get booked. I'm having my doubts if Italy is the only country with fraud... |

I don't think so, Brazilians worst fear are African teams, South Amnericans have such a complex of inferiority that start loosing the game, teams from Europe use defensive tacticts agaibnst Brazil and that's great for players that can break any defence.
But Africans feel they reached what they wanted and have nothing to loose, remember the Olimpic games when Brazil sent their best team with Romario and Bebeto and an African team sent them home.
I believe Brazil may not win Ghana.
